Hi
We have just accepted an offer on our house and had an offer accepted on the one we want - Great but have had a quote from a local solicitor who did our HIPs and it seems a lot. Approx £770 to sell and £970 to buy, VAT included.

Now I've looked on line and there are many conveyancing solicitors offering a much cheaper service £800 - £900 to do both!! obviously the normal land registry fees will be on top of that but how come it can vary so much?

Has anyone had experience of using an on line company? apparently you dont have to live anywhere near them so not sure how you sign for stuff etc.

Advice please and experiences welcome.

I've successfully used a licenced conveyancer for 3 sales and 2 purchases but he's a local man.  I would assume that it they are not local then all the paperwork would have to be posted both ways, which could be very time consuming when you don't want it to be. :(
