I keep chickens and am always over run with eggs. I boil them up and keep them in the fridge.

I have two pugs, one 2.5 years old and the other her pup at 10 weeks. My question is are eggs healthy and in what quantity.

They both eat royal canin dry, one adult one junior. Pup doesnt like it that much. i have started to share an egg between them at breakfast time to make sure pup eats.

Can i use egg in their diet or is it too much protein or will they just get fat. Advice please......i would love this avenue for my egg supply!

most dogs love eggs, raw or cooked. boil or scramble to cook but really they will have fun working out how to eat a raw one :)

So true :-D I regularly give my dogs a whole raw egg in the garden, they love them, and i think they enjoy the challenge of cracking them open. Quail eggs are their absolute favourites though, they must taste very different?? Has anyone eaten quail eggs before, and how did they compare with chicken eggs?

To think all this time i have been throwing out eggs from my chickens that have been cracked or i have run out of people to give them too!

Quails eggs are lovely.....more delicate but firmer when they are boiled. To be honest, not much different in taste! You just must have posh dogs who prefer the finer things in life :)

My 2 love eggs and if I am using any for the family I get 2 dogs waiting at my feet for the shells! One licks out the shell carefully then eats it, the other just wolfs it down and waits to see if he there's any more!

Have all your puppy pugs gone to their new homes now?
- By Wiltshireone [gb] Date 26.03.09 12:23 UTC
Hi, yes, all bar the chap i am keeping. They are all doing really well and have fantastic new pug mummies and daddies!

I am loving this egg education......i had never considered giving them eggs never mind shells! Mum pug is putting on weight as she is getting at pups food as he is so disinterested in eating but egg gets him going.

Is there no risk of shell being sharp on the way down?

On a cautionary note, boiled eggs can cause constipation if given too much or too regularly :)

Mine love raw and I use scrambled for soothing upset tums but only one would eat the shell if given a whole egg to just get on with.  Crushed up in food they don't notice.

The shell's are also a good source of calcium aren't they?  At least I'm sure that's what I've heard.  I'm going to clip the dogs then let them have a go of an egg.  The less hair they have the less of a mess I hope they will get into lol.

Yes :)  Lots of folks who don't want to give RMBs use eggs whole or powdered shells instead.

And drape the walls, furnishings and yourself in plastic   My muppetman finds ways and means to ensure there's no such thing as a mess free meal (even when he starts outdoors :-D )

no, i've not tried quail, but my boy prefers duck to chicken. the shells are also harder to crack so more fun :)

I had to laugh at this...my older WSS is now a very accomplished egg thief if left to his own devices in the hen house and seeing him slope off carrying the egg with great care makes me sorry to spoil his adventure, but I don't want him to get the idea he can just take them whenever he likes...we like to see chicks about too!
