can anybody tell me if my bitch should be still losing bits of blood
it was only yesterday they were born, and i am concerned, did have a lengthy chat with vet on the day but did not expect this does she need to see the vet the vet said there was no need to see her unless there was a problem, bit confusing people have said that within 24 hours she should be seen does anybody have any advice. mind you the vet also said she probably wouldnt eat for a couple of days yet shes hungry every couple of hours

When my female had her pups she still bled a little for about 10 days, not lots just a bit. The first couple of days it was more but got less and less as the days went on, but I'm sure every dog is different.

thanks for the replies it has put my mind at rest suzki has had 4 boys and 2 girls the girls are twins and weigh 3,1/2ozs each and the boys weigh 7oz, 5oz, 4oz and 4oz, there was a possiblity that she retained one, but she had half out the vet said not to worry the rest would follow, and they dont worry if one stays does anybody else think different, has for the house i have a little boy with small lungs and we keep it warm for him maybe its to warm for suzuki, thanks again any more suggestions would be gratefully recieved

If she retained one that is not good at all, Philippa answered about this in the other post (help mum and pups) please be careful and watch if you suspect she did. :)

I doubt very much that the bitch pups are twins....simply litter sisters.

If you are assuming the girls are twins because you only saw one placenta then, although she may well have eaten it before you had a chance to check, I would take her to be checked by the vet or ask them to come out. If the number of placentas were one less than the number of pups tell the vet. Ja:)kie

definately the bitches are twins they came out on the same placenta, like bulletts together, i have identical twins myself so i did know that, the vet also agreed with this, i have chatted to the vet this morning and she is going in tomorrow with pups for a check over, he is not overly concerned as she is active and eating and going out when she needs to, all placenta where seen just the last one retreated back up, and the twins were attached to the same placenta, we saw them all has she was not interested in any placenta until they were out.
thanks for all the advice espicially the dog he will just have to live with feeling left out for a while by her

My vet showed me this because I was concerned their may have been a pup or placenta still inside too(I felt something). You put one hand under the tummy laying flat then the other hand on the other side and press together if you can feel your fingers on the other side through her and she feels nice and flat except of course for the memory glands she should be empty (I don't know if that made any sense). Any how I did that and felt something it turned out to be a placenta and sack which was a puppy that never got fertilized (it was like a bubble of water with a placenta attatched), but still went to the vet to make sure all was o.k and brought pups. (If this didn't make any sense just ignore me :) ) I would take them all to the vet this way they get checked over to.
I had twins too that shared the same placenta.

Hi
If you have any doubts what-so-ever that ALL the placeta's did not come away then get the bitch to the vet ASAP, as Phillipa has said in a previous post this can be very dangerous (If your vet told you otherwise then Im afraid I would seriously consider changing vets!!!!). Take the puppies with you when you go to the vets but make sure that they are kept warm and that you have someone with you to help with the brood, as mum may become a little agitated at the thoughts of her babies being moved.
We always take our bitch to the vets the morning after (if the pups are born in the night) just to be on the safe side, the vets can then give her a thorough examination to make sure all is well and an oxitocin (think thats what its called) injection to get rid of anything that didnt come away when the litter was born.
Good luck with you new brood but please get your little bitch to the vets to be checked over.
