Has anyone found anything that helps lawns look healthier when bitches wee on them?
It's almost gardening time and I am noticing my small burned out patches and wondering if I can make it look any better?

In an answer nope!!!!!!
Only sure fire, safe way is to walk behind them with a watering can and as soon as they wee poor water on it to dilute the urine.
Anything else is ether useless or changes the PH of the urine and can cause internal problems like kidney stones (I think thats right!! JG???)

Thanks- I wouldn't give the dogs anthing just wondered if there was a miracle lawn prep I had missed.

If you find anything let me know as it is the bain of my life and bain of customers lives!!!!!
I havnt seen/heard/found a cure in 10 years in my job.

Leave it alone - in a few months the burnt patches will be lusher and greener than the rest of the lawn, because of the dose of nitrate fertiliser the bitch has kindly delivered!
Whatever you do, don't try altering the bitch's urine without frequently testing it to make sure you're not running the risk of causing stones.

Have no idea if it works but there was something a while back i saw advertised and you put them in the dogs water which helps do something to the urine and therefore stops the burn marks on the grass.
Maybe worth going through old dog newspapers to see, sure they advertised in them.

> Astro turf the garden!
have you done this? I love the idea of it and being able to hose poo off the grass and not have to deal with patches of mush where there used to be grass sounds bliss. I have not experienced wee'd on patches growing back lusher and greener. the wee patches (3 years on) are muddy burnt mush that new seed won't grow on. A garden that doesn't need the grass cut sounds amazing to me.

I use tomato feed on the patches ...more when i can catch them and poor some on
helps a bit

Tigger2 has an astro turf lawn and thoroughly recommends them - she has quite a few dogs so it gets lots of use :-)

I will try the water and tomoato feed and let you know

I have artificial grass on half of my garden and its fab, so glad i had it done, easy to pick poo up from it, you can sweep it and hose it down and it looks just like real grass , but stays green all year round ;-)
Getting artificial grass in the next couple of months. A friend has it and it's brilliant. Her dogs can run about all through the winter and no muddy garden, dogs, or house!

Where do you buy the artificial grass?

I've found this JG - I have 3 bitches and they all mark over each others urine - and the grass where they have peed always seems to be longer and lusher than the rest of the lawn! We have very few burnt patches.
I did read somewhere that if you feed the dog tomato ketchup it stops the urine from burning the grass - but I dont know if that is just a myth.

Tomato seems to be the way forward ! either by eating it or on the lawn, shall be off to do both. Wish my grass would grow better when it has been wee'd on.

hi,i have a boxer bitch and 2 yorkshire terriers and a jack russell a each has a teaspoon of tomatoe juice with each meal.this has worked brilliant for the past 2 yrs and ive won a few prizes for best lawn and garden.the vet knows i give tomato juice and this year hes trying it on his dogs.u can also get green um from most pet shops and this is effective.please dont use tomatoe ketchup as this contains onion powder, salt and sugar.if i thought tomatoe juice caused problems, i wouldnt give it to my dogs, and if our vet thinks its ok thats fine by me.i also tried the wateringcan but the dogs would pee when you back was turned and on a hot day putting water on the grass will cause scorch marks with look just as bad as wee burns.

Thanks- will try some tomato juice
