Kassie has peed in the house (lounge) once in the past two evenings? I don't understand it- it doesn't seem to be due to excitement or anything- I just don't get it- Why- when she's been dry in the house since she was about 12 weeks old- has she gone back to peeing in the house? Or am i just making a mountain out of a molehill or is it quite common that they resort back to peeing in the house at some stage?

How old is she now Stacey and may she be nearing a season ?
I ask because Phoebie just before she started weed on her bed area in her pen a few times when she was left for a very short time (much shorter than she is used to without an accident)

I'm having a problem with a dog that got very scared by the fireworks, could she be frightened of the garden?

Lots of dogs have relapses with the house training as they get a bit older - just go right back to basics with her and treat her as if she were a puppy again for a while, she will soon get back to normal.
Also if she is about due to start her first season this could well be the cause.

Maybe she's marking her territory. Many dogs begin to mark their territory between 6-9 months.
Is the liquid coming out slightly red or have a reddish tint to it? At about 12 months, females reach sexual maturity and begin to soil their surroundings with bloody discharge that accompanies estrus. This usually last about 3 weeks. If this is the problem, I'd advise you to confine her in order to minimize soiling and carefully watch her to make sure males don't gain access to her and impregnate her.
Be cautious. You'd be surprised how determined, persistent, and incredibly innovative they can be when they are thinking with the wrong head. Good luck!

She's now 7 and a half months old- I can't say if there's any tint to it since I haven't actually saw her doing it yet (she's only done it twice) and it was on my room carpet which is a green colour. I think coming into season sounds more probable?

Always a possibility Stacey, the age is about right. Is she swollen at all? Not that "No" means anything because the hormones start to come into play before any signs show.

Decoy had a relapse in house training at the same age! He was a doddle to house train and I really thought I cracked it, but at 7 months he started weeing in the dining room. I went back to basics as if he were a tiny pup again and it worked after a week!! I think it may have been hormonal for him - could be for yours too! good luck julie:)

Unfortunatly- it may not be that easy to go back to basics with her- basics with Kassie was that I scooped her up and took her outside at the first sign of her *rain-dance*- since she's now 5 and a half stone in weight and I'm only 8 and a half- not much chance of scooping her up to rush outside with her:p :D

Since your previous tactics are no longer feasible or practical, may i suggest a new game plan?
Take a tin can or glass bottle and fill it 1/4 of the way with coins. Whenever you catch her soiling the house shake it and tell her "outside!" The loud sound will scare her and eventually she'll realize that soiling the house is associated with a loud, undesirable, fright inspiring sound.

Honestly I think there's something more to it- Kassie knows that peeing in the house isn't acceptable? I just can't understand it- but I can say that this isn't usual for Kassie at all- if you make a big deal out of cleaning it up she looks away ashamed- she knows it's wrong:( She has by the way done it again tonight- making it 3 times in three nights.

In that case, all indications and clues are pointing towards the possibility that she is going into season. The best way i can think of for you to verify and confirm is to check her urine next time she decides to soil the house. If it has any blood in it, then scroll up and follow the advice i posted before.
If there is no bloody discharge, and you honestly think she is not doing it voluntarily, then i suggest you take her to your vet and have her checked up.

Just been thinking about the weeing problem, and I remember My GR bitch sunny wee'd in the lounge right in front of me when she was about 1 , not like her at all, I took her to the vet and it turned out she had cystitis(sp.) I think we 'know' with our dogs, when its acting up or if something is amiss, and you seem to feel its more than a relapse in training. worth taking her to the vet in case it is cystitis, just a thought! julie:)

Ah well funny you should say that Julie because my 'Book of the Bitch' (trusty mate;)) says about urine marking but not to mistake this for cystitis:) So I am aware of it:D :D :D

Any progress with your bitch lately? I'm very curious as to the cause of the soiling now.

I've swabbed her with toilet tissue just after she'd stood up as I was advised:) But nothing- I'm going to leave it until Wed and if she's still peeing in the house then I'm going to the vet to have cystitus ruled out and the vet ought to tell me if she's swollen or if there's any change:) I know it's hard for people to tell me over the internet-what it actually is but honestly it's even harder when you're inexperienced:)

Have you considered a urinary tract infection to be the source of your problems?
Just a faint possibility, but could she have been scared by fireworks whilst outside? Some dogs will be OK and then if there is a loud bang while they are "doing the business..."
Just a thought! :)

Edited: whoops sorry, I've done it again, I could have sworn I read all the posts but I see this has already been suggested :o

Well that's what I'm having her checked for Bully- I don't know myself so I want tests doing to rule these things out:) I know I sound like an over-protective doggie-mother but like I say I'm inexperienced so I can't/don't want to run any risks:) My only problem is how long do I leave her before having these things checked for?
And no Lindsay- Kass wasn't the least bit phased by the fireworks so that's not a possability:) Thanks for trying to help though:)

hi stacey, re the cystitis/uti - with Sunny she had wee'd in front of me in the lounge - hadn't done that since she was tiny pup, and then I noticed she was weeing a lot more that usual, but tiny little wee's, also her wee was quite strong smelling. I took her to vets and they took a swab and also wanted a sample - no mean feat - believe me. The best I could manage (everytime I went to stick a tray under her whilst weeing she'd run a mile :D) was to syringe it up off the patio - not ideal - definitely not sterile - but that was the best I could offer at the time - came back it was cystitis. hope it helps julie:)
