My bitch was mated just over 3 weeks ago, she has had a slight infection and has just finished some antibiotics.  She has been a little clingy today but nothing too noticeable.  She is a fussy eater and tonight refused to eat her dinner (Arden Grange) this is not unusual she much prefers the cheaper brands of dog food but I would prefer her to eat something that it good for her.  I mixed in some tinned food and it was gone in seconds!  About 15 minutes later she was lying on the floor with our other dogs in our living room with us, our cat came in and went and greated all the dogs, as he walked past Ellie she flew at him, there was fur everywhere - she really meant it!  I have never seen aggression in Ellie she is a GR with the most wonderful temperament.  But now I'm worried, could this be early pregnancy times or are the signs pointing to something far more serious.  We will be seeing the vet tomorrow but wondered if anyone could offer advice in the meantime.

Thanks in advance

I also think it could be her hormones but better have her checked.

Hi everyone, we saw the vet this morning, I was also worried about a discharge that I had seen, only today, it was fairly clear, no smell and a bit stringy.  The vet checked her over thoroughly, and said she was fit and well and also said that she would be quite hopeful that she is pregnant.  So now I'm sooo excited, I will get her booked in for a scan in the next week or two and will keep my fingers crossed.  I will keep an eye on her just in case.

Thanks again

is this her first litter ? I found with one of my girls that she changed considerably, pretty quickly after the mating for a good few weeks , second litter she was fine .
I recon it is hormonal but keep an eye on her if you have other dogs as she may play up a bit.

Hi, yes this is her first litter and she did change almost immediately after the mating, I must admit I thought it was too soon for her to be showing any signs and that's why I've been worried about her.  I have got other dogs and will watch her with them, she has met the cat since the incident and they are fine now so maybe it was that he was in the wrong place at the wrong time!!

Yes sound similar behaviour , my girl at the time wouldnt allow my other dogs into the living room , she wasnt aggressive but would run at them to shoo them out , I put it down to the fact she has put herself up a notch as she was now in her mind pack leader (which she is anyway)

I found on her second litter to not let her see the other dogs until the following day after the matings she seemed to calm down and act her normal self.I also think its down to the fact they smell of the male dog which encourages the other dogs in the home to want to sniff them .
In a couple of weeks she will be all loving ..good luck hope she has taken.
