My neighbour brought round pork ribs for my dogs a couple of days ago and on Sunday night both had them for tea.  Missy only had a small amount as pork in general doesn't seem to agree with her if she eats it raw with bones and oberon had some too.

Yesterday morning I got up and oberon had been vomiting and had very loose stools.  I gave him breakfast so he had something in his stomach and he wolfed it down and he wasn't sick again and his stools after breakfast were solid again.  the ones through the night had wee bits of bone in it but there was no bone fragments in the vomit.

I didn't think much of it apart from not to feed him pork again either but last night he has been sick again through the night.  I came down this morning and it was all liquid sick and frothy although some of it was slightly bloodstained.  he has been pooing and eating and playing as normal but does this require a trip to the vets.  Although I am no expert I don't think there is anything stuck as he is eating as normal the volume of poo is still the same (i.e. for every 15kg bag that goes in 14kg comes out).

I was using kibble last night as a training treat for him and he gets a few bits of kibble in the pen when he goes to bed so he doesn't sleep on a totally empty stomach.  So does this require a vet visit or will it take a few days to get the pork out of his system?

Was the blood bright red or like coffee grouts?

It was just round the edges of the frothy vomit/bile.  Against the wooden flooring it looked slightly darker than the oak floors and I used kitchen towel on the edges and realised it was blood.  so I would say it was fresh blood but it was only a very small amount.

If he were my dog I would get him to the vets ASAP.  A bone fragment may have cut him or may be lodged somewhere and is not shifting.  In either case you are risking his life by not getting it diagnosed immediately.  Bone should show in an X-ray, so it should be quick to rule that in or out of the picture.

It sounds like bleeding from a damaged area between the mouth and the stomach probably caused by a bone but may just be a capiliary that has burst during the act of vomiting, either way it would be wise to visit the vet and let them make sure there is not still a fragment of bone stuck somewhere or may be in the teeth. Had the blood reached or come from the stomach there would be signs of digestion and that would be like coffee grouts not at all like blood.

Thanks for the advice.  I am going to take him tomorrow if he is sick again tonight.

It is strange as he has only been sick through the night and not at all during the day.  He is barking, pooing, eating etc as normal but I don't want him to have to go through an anaesthetic if he doesn't have to.  I have given him some white bread tonight as I recall reading on here at one point about this coating anything in the stomach so will see if that makes a difference.

Any vomit tonight and we are going to the vets 1st thing tomorrow.

let us know how you got on, we had a 9wk old puppy with similar probs and it turned out she had a nasty infection in the gut which nearly cost her life, as a result of this she is now tiny and proberbly never grow to be the same as her siblings, but main thing is now shes healthy, and its kinda cute having a little one cos ahe is spoilt rotten,

i hope you get sorted tho
