As well as coping with my hairy chums :D , I try to do a bit of photography when I get out and about. Admittedly, the hairy chums manage to get into a lot of shots, but occasionally I succeed ingetting a dog-free piccie!
It crossed my mind that some of you fellow Champdoggers might share this pursuit, so I thought I'd put up this link to a site where you can post your efforts, and let the world see them! :)
It is the same type of site as the "Cleo and Solo" one, where so many of us put doggy pics, but it is more intended for "serious" photography (if you see what I mean!). There is a particularly spectacular wildlife album by a lady called Lou Manouch - her hawk/raptor shots are especially stunning.
Have a look-see, and if you have some scenic photos, post them!

Aaaaargh! Still using an obsolete Pentax P50 dating from 1987! However, aged though it may be (like its owner :D ), it still works OK, abd long may it continue - I can't afford a new one! :(
However, still holding out for the Lottery win, and the newest Nikon available at the time - probably the F99999999 !!
By Jackie H
Date 11.11.02 17:44 UTC
Oh I love my Pentax and it must be at least 10 years old, but it is still better at taking pictures than I am, also have a Nikon digital (also getting a bit old) which I have so much fun with as I love (mucking about with the pics on the PC) but when it comes to the picture you cant beat the "proper camara". Trouble is I'm not able to prosses and print for myself so you have to get it spot on in the first place if your not to be disapointed. Used to throw about 80% out with the film camara and find it is more like 99% with digital. don't know if it is that I'm more careless or more fussy. Ja:)kie

Likewise, I think the good, old-fashioned SLR is better than digital at most things! Also, if you want to be able to put a pic up on your wall, the paper print available from 35mm neg is still better than one printed from a computer (unless, of course, you've been able to spend a shed-load of roubles on it).
I would like to own a digital, however, for those days when weather or other circumstances don't permit the full kit - a digi would be useful as a sort of visual notebook, to remind me where I saw something worth taking the Pentax to, on another occasion!
One day, perhaps, the digital will catch up with, and even surpass, the 35mil, and our faithful Pentaces will go the way of the vinyl LP :(
However, until I see one, I'm sticking to my manual-focus job, with its switchable-off automatics - it does leave just that little bit of creativity to us humans!
As to failed shots, most of mine these days are down either to sheer silliness at the time of taking, or dud batteries :(
Or, of course, dogs moving at last moment! :)

we've got a cannon EOS jobbie -takes very good piccies and a little point and shoot ,handy for when you don't want to carry the big bag about ,Him in doors used to process his own pics but not anymore,no spare room .
the cannon has the idiot mode ( which is the one I use mostly ) and then all the arty modes which take abit of practise -had a bit of success .my failures are the night time shots -can't be bothered with atripod so try and balance the camera on the wall ......result ....one very cockeyed picture !!
Some very good pictures on that site though Snorri ---thanks

You got it right about some of the shots there - Lou is extremely good - and I think she uses a Canon EOS as well. Those Kestrel pics in particular - wow!

I've got one of those too. Good aren't they. And thank heavens for the point and shoot facility it comes with, for all those times I can't study the manual for 3 hours before taking the picture :)

Hello Liz!
Kestrel pics are in LManouch "Snowdonia" album, which, I think, is on page 2 of the site. I would have posted the direct link for you, but at the time I looked (a few minutes ago), I got the message "Website not responding" :( Grrrrrrr!
The MSN Group sites do suffer from this occasionally, and all you can do is try again later. When you get the "Pictures" page up, try clicking in the dropdown menu in the "Page" dialog box and highlight page 2. The kestrels shots should be there (when the site works!!)

I've mastered the sporty mode -good for water etc and the one were you get the fuzzy background ( I know all the technical terms :D ) but the idiot mode is my favourite ( speaking only for myself of course !!)

I've got some lovely shots of the dogs with it. And I've managed the slow shutter speed thingummy - camera in one hand, manual in the other . . .

You have to be careful not to make the pic too big (i.e. keep the filesize down). Set your scanner resolution to about 75 dpi (dots per inch) - this is enough for internet use and will not use up your storage allocation quite so fast - although, with 30MB, you have a lot!
Smaller pic filesizes are easier to post and will download to visitors' computers faster.
Note: if you post pics at both Cleo&Solo site AND Photo site, your 30MB storage is split between the two (and any other MSN Groups you join).
These MSN sites are popular and get a lot of visitors, so the server gets a bit busy on occasion, which affects pic loading time.
A pic which is loaded successfully may not appear immediately, but if it is not too big, it will, given time.

Hi Liz, After it tells you your photo file is empty, , in the top left hand corneer of the page there should be a little sign that says upload photos, click on this and then itshould give you further instructions
By steve
Date 16.11.02 12:00 UTC

i'll try again later

Anne,
I'll be watching out for them. I like Brainless' photos and Philippa's Angel looks to be getting on well with Daisy. I love looking at all the pics. I've put more on tonight now that I've re-installed my scanner and I've got a couple of Scottish scenic ones that I'm going to put on the other photo site. Unfortunately, I'm rubbish at taking photos compared to the ones already on there. I'll need to practise.
Dot

Dot and Liz,
Well they are loaded under cava14una's crew. I'm really sorry Liz to have beat you there:p :-D.
I'm off back now to have a proper look at everyone else's, before you look at Braid repeat after me "Braid is a Beardie" keep this in mind you will understand when you see him,
Anne

Date 16.11.02 23:39 UTC
Anne,
Replied here to get bigger boxes again. Nice pics. I love the one of Una and Cassie. I bet that would look lovely either enlarged or made into a portrait. You've totally confused me about Braid. I must be missing something

you'll need to explain. Is he supposed to be a Beardie? Does he think he's a Beardie? Am I just being thick? :)
Dot

Hi Dot,
Braid was bought as a working Beardie but looking at him what do you think he's like? I think Mum might have had a fling with a Border Collie, his registered name was Braid the Changeling
Anne
By philippa
Date 17.11.02 08:55 UTC
Hi Anne, I have three working beardies, and I would say that Braid has got a more than fair sprinkle of B/C in him :) I am interested where you registered him. Did you mean on the KC working register?

Phillippa,
Hoped you would be along to see what you thought. He was registered with the KC on the working register. He was the most marvellous dog and having him pts at 3 was terrible, how he looks in the photos was how he was ready for anything but never silly. I don't think I'll ever stop missing him but now I can think about him and smile, sorry I'm doing a St Braid again, but he was my friend in a way I never felt with a dog before

Date 17.11.02 11:55 UTC
Right!
this is my last attempt--I've looked at everybody elses pictures and it's really bugging me as to why it won't work for me
so heres the tale ..........
i've logged on to the sites ( and joined etc ) I've downloaded the picture uploader thingy ,so when I click on 'add pictures' I get all my files down the left and a space on the right
when I click on 'my pictures ' it doesn't open the file and it pings

I've even moved pictures to another file but it says that file is empty
:(
can somebody please put me out of my misery ;)
Liz
I'VE DONE IT !!!!!!!!!!!:D :D :D :D :D :D

Way to go Liz, three cheers for you,
Anne ;-)
