Topic Dog Boards / General / How many leads and collars do you have ?
- By vinya Date 16.03.09 16:50 UTC
If you are anything like me you will have loads of leads and collars. I buy one.  like it for a bit, then decide its not really what I need. Or truth be it, I just love buying dog stuff.
So I have a bag in the cupboard full of leads  and a bag with collars and every room seems to have a lead or collar in it. I am thinking of doing an ebay thing to sell some of them lol. :)

- By newfiedreams Date 16.03.09 17:20 UTC
Too blinking many!!! It's like a snake jungle!! I tend to buy a new one for every new dog...then I usually decide I want them all matching new stuff! I could probably open up a shop!!! Let alone all the little jackets, coats and T shirts(for the wee ones only, Newfies NEVER use a coat...oh the shame if they did!) but the little ones get cold, even in the house a bit as we have no central heating and it's a chilly old Bungalow! Poor Pepe, the skinny wee brat gets quite cold!

At my club we love to have people come and watch and learn about the breed.

- By deansami [gb] Date 16.03.09 19:53 UTC
missie these head collars, are they like halters on horses? and do they stop pulling?
- By AliceC Date 16.03.09 20:00 UTC
Oh Vinya I'm glad its not just me...I have something of a lead collection for my Samoyed, I'm always buying her new stuff because I get bored of using the same ones (I suppose its a bit like me and shoes...lol) she must have about 8 or 9 leads in total, she only has one collar though which was specially made for her :-) My Cavalier on the other hand has a small collection of collars...the blingier the better...I LOVED Diamond Dogs at Crufts but the prices were a bit toooo high!

I keep mine all in a cupboard under the sink...I really must restore some order in there...the leads are all over the place at the moment !!
- By vinya Date 16.03.09 20:12 UTC
I would rather buy something for the dogs than for myself. A pet shop to me is like a toy shop to a child. I have to go in every pet shop I see. And CRUFTS is like Christmas lol.:)
- By AliceC Date 16.03.09 20:15 UTC
I'm exactly the same - I can spend hours in PAH - my OH says I am their dream customer :-)
- By Abbeypap [gb] Date 16.03.09 21:52 UTC Edited 16.03.09 22:06 UTC
Too many to count and that is just the ones in the house for the Papillons.  Have a box full of leather leads, lines and collars that I still keep shipshape that I used for GSD's and Border Collies.  Haven't had one of either for long long time.

Now ask about bedding, came home at the weekend from a show with yet more.  That was after I spent Friday packing away the "good bedding" for another day (two black bin liners full), and still enough in the dog cupboard to leave not a space for even a mouse. :)
- By Crespin Date 16.03.09 22:24 UTC
Way to many to count!  I have here in the house two dogs (pups are still too young, but oh wait till they get their own!).   I have about 6 show leads for Cher, there are 3 for Casie.  I have two walking leashes for Cher, Casie has a couple too.  Then I have two flexi leashes.  Collars??  Oh goodness, I have 2 chains each for show, then theres Chers flat collars (I think she has 5) and then Cher and Casie both have a half check.

Coats, are another thing I have lots of.  Casie has two, Cher has 8.  And yes, I have a doggy purse too, but that was given to me by a friend, and I have only put Cher in it twice.  (when my friend was around, lets say Cher wasnt too impressed - if only she could talk!)

Glad to hear I don't have a lead fettish on my own. I dont think I dare try and count how many leads, collars, tracking harnesses or lines I have. They sort of fill two drawers, a big box under the stairs, two sports holdalls and a box in the atic. Each and every piece holds memories, some funny and some sad.

Not long ago I was rooting for something under the stairs and found a carrier bag that contained a tracking harness and line that I used on a GSD I lost 10 years ago, as I felt it I went all warm as lovely memories flooded back.

When a 'friend' goes to the bridge, they always take their very special collar and lead with them, as well as a toy and my favourite dog walking coat. I know it seems daft, but I just feel that one day we will be reunited and won't have to waste time looking for coats and leads.

The one I use is like a figure of eight - goes over the nose and round the back of the head - you need a double ended lead for both this and the ordinary collar, and yes it does stop her pulling. I have the 'gentle leader' as well but find this rides up her face so I use the '8' one :)
- By CardiCorgiLover [gb] Date 17.03.09 00:02 UTC
Phew, am glad I am not the only one who has far too many! My girl dog has far more collars and leads than the boy because he is my mum's dog and having "more than 2 collar and lead sets for one dog is just excessive"...lol! I'm also one of those slightly silly people that insists on my dog's collar/lead/harness all matching so they have whole sets.

Luke - collie/staffy cross
1 x Canny collar
3 x collars (inc. one very battered spare!)
1 x harness
1 x Flexi lead
2 x leads
1 x raincoat

Maggie - CWC
5 x harnesses
5 x collars
5 x leads
1 x Flexi lead
1 x raincoat
1 x Visiglo collar

And an emergency slip lead in the car, just in case.

We dont have that many to be honest, with 7 dogs!
The 2 Danes who are shown have there 2 leather rolled slip leads, and a leather rolled collar and a lead rein each.
The BT's and Rottie are never on leads, so they dont wear them when in the fields, they have a collar each with there microchip tag on them ,when they go into the kennels.
Suzi my rescue GD wears her collar all the time, and gets most upset if you take it off even to wash it.
We have various leads from flexi's to leather training leads, I have leads and collars in the trimming room, which have come from clients dogs, who have passed away or grown out of them, they all go to charity.
Also all the resue GD's who come in, usually only have a collar to there name, so I buy them a new collar and lead, and the old is usually kept for spares.
So probably not that many, but Bedding is my fettish!!!
Love all the different colours of vet beds, and dont know if the dogs notice the colours, but like to see them with nice clean new bedding!!
- By deansami [gb] Date 17.03.09 07:58 UTC
thanks i have the leader to go with it i think, its the one for the halti harness im thinking it will go with it.

thankyou

> So probably not that many, but Bedding is my fettish!!!

I like nice bedding too, but 2 of my dogs dont - they prefer to sleep on the cold floor and dig the beds up so they dont have to sleep on them! Luckily my Cavalier loves nice bedding, I bought her a gorgeous leopard print bed from a show last summer, and thats her favourite :-)
- By fifi [gb] Date 17.03.09 08:29 UTC
Alice, Diamond Dogs are sooo worth saving up for - they look even better on the dog than they do on the stand!! :)  After 3 years of looking I finally bought one for Maisie this year and it looks brilliant and I WILL expect people to comment on it when we are at a show :) Look at it this way - if you added up the cost of all your collars which you are not really that fussed about you have prob spent the equivalent of what a Diamond Dog one costs and then you have one you relly really want so wont feel the need to waste any more money buying more collars.  I can justify anything if I want to!!!!! :) :) I'm now needing to start saving for the matching lead :0
- By AliceC Date 17.03.09 11:31 UTC
Fifi, you're very naughty!! :-) I think if I'd have had my OH's card with me then I definitely would have bought one but I just couldn't justify it!! (Spending your own money is always different to someone elses, isn't it?!)

I really wanted that diamond encrusted flexi lead for Pixie...I know its slightly tacky but I do love things that sparkle! TBH I'm happy with her current collar, it's black with diamante squares and small bits of pink ribbon - we get lots of comments on it :-)
- By Isabel Date 17.03.09 12:07 UTC
I still have and use the lead I bought sometime during the lifetime of my first Cocker which must be at last 25 years old.  It still works :-)  Since then I have acquired a couple more but only ever enough to go round, two show leads in the different colours I have needed which have been washed and used again and again, two extending leads of which the youngest is probably 10 years old and that is it.    My present 14 year old Cocker wears a woven nylon half choke for walkies that she has had all her adult life.
Shoes do it for me, leads don't :-)

> Shoes do it for me, leads don't

Here here!!! :-D

3 Dogs

I have walking leads (1 Each) and Collar
Extender Leads (not really used that often)
Slip Leads (1 Each)
Training Lead (1)
Show Leads (differing colours for each dog)

Although I am considering a half check for my baby boy as he is getting very strong!!!
Oh, and  I have one specific lead I use only when grooming.

Not that many certainly no bling, but then my breed are more of a working type. :)
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 17.03.09 13:54 UTC
I'm not too bad. 3 dogs, each has a normal buckle collar and lead, each has a show collar and lead. Then 1 has an obedience lead, and we also have 2 flexileads. Oh and each has 2 harnesses, the 2nd harnesses were the most unnecessary purchase! Oh yes and 2 brace chains, and a Halti. I think that's about it!
- By Whistler [gb] Date 17.03.09 14:14 UTC

About 8 pieces of vet bed, continually changed if they get a bit tatty.

- By dvnbiker [gb] Date 17.03.09 15:33 UTC
I am sooo glad I am not the only one with a lead and collar fetish.  My best mate benefits from mine as she has 7 dogs so has the old ones when I have got bored of them.
- By pavlova [gb] Date 17.03.09 21:47 UTC
I ,ve just sent a load of collars and leads to my local dog warden who makes good use of them when he rehomes any dogs but I,ve still got far too many ,I mean how many leads can one dog use at once?
And I never part with the ones my girls are wearing when they pass away they are all lined up on hooks in the dogroom.
