sorry to ask this on here but does anyone have the implanon implant? i had mine about 3 weeks ago and is still painful and reaaly really itchy.

none of my friends have it and the nurse seems quite non commital in her answers

i do and it shouldn't be sore or itchy, go and see the clinic that put it in.

i wasn't even bruised 3 weeks in-did you take the bandage off? apparently they can move and get infected.

when they fix the problem stick with it though :) i've found it great and will be getting another once this one runs out, i was a lunatic spotty psycho for 3 months then fantastic ever since, i rarely get monthlies any more and of course no babies (hurrah!) :)

i wa really bruised for about 2 weeks but that has faded now, it hurts when im in certain positions and is really really itchy that i want to scratch it with something sharp. eeeek.

definately would... mine was nippy for a few hours and bruised (granted very badly) for a couple of days (i took arnica though) then was a little tender and slightly uncomfortable for a couple of days. the only problem i've had since then is it hurts if they do blood pressure taking on top of it so i ask them to use the other arm now.

If you are still suffering and getting no joy from the nurse - see a doctor . If you have a problem that cannot be resolved the nurse should be referring you anyway .

I spoke about it to the nurse and she said i was being a wimp and that everyone has a bit of pain. Which i find surprising because i have quite a high pain threshhold. I hope it stops soon as i dont think i can tolerate it much longer.

I would go see another nurse.  I never had any pain or itching except that of the bruise, but I bruise badly and my bleed went on too long even the doctor started to worry....

However it has never been itchy or painful due to the rod, even when i have my blood pressure taken I don't feel it and its in the same arm I give blood from!

How about going online to the NHS direct website and talk to a nurse online?  They are fantastic IME and that could be an easy second opinion.

I used to have one and honestly say that the bruising from having it put in is the worst I've ever had - although the doctor that put it in was none too gentle!

It did itch as well as I recall, but then scabs on me tend to itch a bit.  Once it was healed it was fine, but it did take a while - can't remember exactly how long as it was a few years back though.  Didn't feel it after that healinng period at all, except to touch (if that makes sense - no discomfort I mean).

Once you've had these implants, do they need to be removed after they've served their time?  Do you still have a period with them?  Are their any side effects?  I'm a bit of a wuss, so not sure I could do this (especially after Mahonc's post), but am curious.

i need to book in with the doctor like everyone has suggested and not see the nurse.
I wouldnt be put off its a great idea i just think im one of the exceptions to the case.
they last for 3 years but can stay in for however long but they gradually stop working. side effects are pretty much like any pill looks like on the instructions, but with the pill you have to wait to maybe have a baby but with this you can try straight away.

I had mine for two years and always had the occasional twinge/pain with it. I put on 3 stone while i had it despite not changing any of my eating habits...if anything i was eating less. I would go for 6 months without a period then get it all at once! Like most contraceptives people all react differently, but its not something that I would consider again, despite its convienience.
It doesnt hurt to have it put in although it did bruise at first. taking it out isnt painful either, just a bit uncomfortable due to the pulling out etc. it is all done under local so all you can feel is the pressure, no pain.

they take it out after 3 years. i very occasionally get a long period with them, like a week or so but its very very occasional. the only side effects i had were turning into a complete looper for 3 months at the start with big big spots. after that nothing. i've found it great.

Ok, you've convinced me it's not for me.  The putting on 3 stone (as if I need anymore) was all I needed to hear!

but like she said that can happen with any contraception, you can have it taken out at any time. side effects can be gaining or losing weight so depends on person to person.
i was terrible on the injection as i was always late getting the next one

after the first few weeks its not any bother at all, honestly its a great thing.

A friend of mine was on her second one when i had mine put in and had no side effects at all, it wasnt for me but that doesnt mean it would have the same effect on another person. It just didnt agree with me. You never know until you try. Ive settled on to the yasmin pill with no problems at all so its a case of try until you find the right thing for you.

im having mine replaced for the first time tonight so wish me luck as i dont do pain very well!!!lol.

i think it depends on the individual, mine healed up straight away, i think the itching part means its healing, i suppose its like a peircing some ppl can get a reaction from the metal, (im sure thats what it is) maybe your body just needs to adjust to it,

its ok i get a period nearl every 2 weeks, it drives me mental, and my pains are lot worse, and iv developped a bad case of mastitis everytime i get a period....... i aint even had kiddies yet

dont worry too much, i lost a stone and a half with mine, and i was only 8.5 st to start with, i do suppose there was other issues too but i certainly didnt gain wait

I've lossed abit of weight since having it :) 

I love the simplicity of it (kept missing pills)

But it seems I have 2 week periods :(  Hoping that will change :D

hasn't for me but as i said they are rare, every 6 months at most.

i suspect i would have to but i can't have the pill (chronic migraine and weight made it not sensible) and it doesn't appear to work for my family (both my mum and sis fell pregnant when taking the pill correctly)

i decided to give this a go before i tried a coil as i figured the less invasive the better and its great. that being said i've friends with coils who say they think they are brilliant.

Just got back an hour ago from having it replaced for the first time.
Didnt hurt to have it removed at all.
Wrose bit was the jab to numb the area!!!!LOL.
I was on the injection and had no monthlys for nearly 9 years ( bliss ).
Once i had the implant it took well over 2 years to get the monthlys back ( boo )
Bonus was i lost over 3 stone since having the implant without trying to hard.
also im sure all the dog walking has helped with the weight loss.
So good all round.

I had mine done last may and i had a period everyday for about 2 months i now dont have them at all. I didnt have them on the mini-pill either my dad has DVT so i couldnt have the regular one. I have no issues with it now and i was sick of going to the docs for repeat perscriptions did my head in.
