took our whelping bitch to be weighed tonight at the vets ...she was 29.40kg at 5weeks into whelp ...shes now 8weeks + and weighs 34.70 is this amount of weight gain ok as shes put it on in 31/2 weeks ...i didnt take her to vets hubby did and now they are closed .. xx
Well it does depend on what breed she is. 5 kgs may not be much in the 3 weeks depending on the amount of pups and fluid. I imagine you are a first timer?? As she has only a week to go, there is little you can do now.
hi lexy lol no not 1st timer :) ....just never took dog to be weighed the last week before whelp ...she was scanned at 5weeks and only saw 4 ...the thing is she was very fit and just the right weight when she was mated ...i was just wondering if this amount of weight was ok ...but i know it depends how many she as at the end :) ....the thing is she still isnt looking that big ...so i was shocked with the amount of weight she has put on ???? i hope that makes sence ....but to what she looked like you can tell shes in whelp ....friends and family are saying she isnt very big ???? ..so ....the weight shes put on was a shock :) this breed thats in whelp is the 1st time for me :) xx
You still haven't said what breed. What I mean is if it is say a larger breed say Rottie that amount would be less significant then if it was say a Dachs. If the scan says 4 she probably has 6?? I wouldn't worry too much, it could be lots of fluid!!
No, because on the Breeding board that could be taken as advertising. A person can say Small, Medium or Large breed, but be no more specific than that.
I wouldn't worry so much!! Goodness all of you are a load of worry warts 'aint ya! She's fine, Vet surely would have said if she/he thought the bitch had gained too much? Relax! Enjoy! I always find that if you get stressed about the Dam and possibilities...well she will pick up on it and get worried/stressed herself! She needs you to be a normal, calm, relaxed person! :-)
Just notoced you weight question,( tinternet been down) I would try asking the LC forum, especially Leslie what they think. They certainly wont mind all the questions I the world if you have any concerns. I am not much use in the breeding department I am afraid. Chris x
