So, the puppies are 7.5 weeks. They were health checked earlier in the week and all got a clean bill of health.
But now one of the pups appears to have "suddenly" developed an umbillical hernia that is the size of a significant pea, they are a small breed so that is a fair size. If you push it it goes back in and doesnt seem to hurt or effect her.
Should i get her checked again by the vet, will this be an issue for her new owner, and how has it suddenly appeared!?!?! The new owners have a 72 hour health check booked by their vet but i don't want to cross my fingers and hope it will be alright i want to know the pup will be ok before she leaves.

As long as you have pointed out to them before they buy her, I wouldn't worry. I would advise them
not to breed from her & put this in writing in the puppy contract & make sure they sign against it. Then there is no come back if they opt to breed from her & they have any problems or their vet advises an operation to correct it, Caveat emptor-Let the buyer beware applies here

I would get it checked out by your vet first - we did this when one of our litters had two pups with hernias (these were the only two born breech, and I cut the cord in both cases). Vet seemed to think that they would disappear without any problems, but if they did persist, it might be advisable to have them repaired when the puppies were spayed (sorry - both bitch puppies). So we added a paragraph to our contract in each case, stating that the pup did have a hernia, and if it required surgery before neutering, that we would pay for it. Neither did - one did have hers repaired when neutered, other didn't - but we all knew where we stood.

Thanks Moonmaiden, so the size of it doesnt matter, or that it has just appeared? Will it need treatment or could it get worse?
I have just looked back on her birth notes and the cord broke during the birth so it would have been a result of the birth. None of the others have it but i will tell the new owners now if you can answer teh above questions they are bound to ask me!

Are you taking the puppy back for another check up before they leave you ? Loukar has a huge hernia, it is soft & when he lays on his back it disappears.I doubt very much that it will become very big as it would have been visible before now in my experience

I don't see why you should pay for an operation that TBH will not benefit the puppy as the hernia is quite small. You might want to have a word with your vet about it before she leaves if she isn't going back for another check up.
i have emailed the new owner to let him know that it is harmless and a link to a page explaining. She isnt going till 8.5 weeks so will take her back to the vet next week to get it checked out. It is soft and disapears when she lays on her back or you push it in then it slowly comes out. The vet has always made a point of pushing the area when she inspects them and said they were all fine. Was just shocked that it appeared and looked so big all of a sudden.

Moonmaiden, I didn't embolden before - but you will see that we said if it needed surgery BEFORE neutering we would pay - if it developed and was worse than it appeared when the pup left us.

I had a puppy was fine at the vets. Two days later took him to the owners, nothing had shown in the two days since the vets they got hold of him and a big hernia popped out. I was in total shock as it has not been there previously. If it's only pea size I wdn't worry to much.
