Topic Dog Boards / Health / skin problem on gsd

hi everyone:
I ask this question for my neighbor, he has a 2 year old gsd bitch, unspayed . last year the girl suffered from a skin problem named mange, after some bath treatment, the girl recovered. and my neighbor feeds his girl on  royal canin GSD  special food. BUT recently, he found the girl begins to scratch more often than in winter, he finds a litter bit red on some areas of skin, does anybody know is it the mange reoccured, if really, does the owner need to change the dogs food to some special food? which food is better for this gsd: raw meat or royal canin ? does he need to use some ointment or shampoo or other drops and medicine to prevent this happen?

thanks

I would say a trip to the vet to identify the problem.Mange is a mite than can be caught mainly from another infected animal including areas that foxes have been. If this is the problem a change of food will not help, proper treatment from the vet is needed
and sooner rather than later because it can be very painfull and distressing for the animal if left (similar to scabies in humans.)
As far as best food for a gsd I would say it si personal choices together with what suits your dog. My gsd was originally on RC which is good food used and recommended by many. I now prefer to use raw food as I like the idea and benifits that I feel are availbale from this type of feeding and my dog prefers raw to dry.
