Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / How long can seasons last?

Hiya all. New here but thought I'd ask.
My DDB is having her first season but its been nearly 5 weeks now. I've had Rotti's and German Shephards in the past but they only last 3 weeks.
Ziva (my DDB) was bleeding and quite swollen for the usual 3 weeks then it when off and I thought that was it but last week it all started up again.
The dogs are mad for her as well but weren't a few weeks ago!! I've spoke to the vet who advised this is not unusual for first seasons??
Any advise would be great?

Sounds like she may have had a 'split season' ;)  not unusual for a first season, sometimes they can have a couple of weeks between as well ;)  As the dogs are now 'wild for her' I would treat this as a proper season and keep close eye on her for the full 28 days, no off lead etc ;)

Cher's first season was 7 weeks.  She got a bit lathargic, and anemic (sp?) .  Her breeding day, during that heat was like day 45 or something ridulous like that.

Add some high protein food, and also a multivitamin to help nutrients and vitamin stability.  Thats what the vet told me to do.

Her seasons after that, went back to the "normal" 3 week length.

Thanks for the advise. My old dog, who I thought was past it lol has turned into a raving young pup with more energy than the other males put together!
The bleeding has turned into a watery salmon colour now so hoping it may start to fade over the next couple of days
