Hi,
I have just read another post about feeding habits of a ladies dog and there seem to be alot of negative feedback about bakers dry dog food. I am quite worried as that is what i am feeding my boy!
Mason is a 5 and a half months old collie x lab (ish lol) I have tried him on a few other foods (iams, pedigee) but that is the only one he liked! I really dont want to do him any damage and want the best for him so can anyone suggest a better quality, appetising food at a reasonable price? (bakers is very cheap, i am aware of that)
I really had no idea that bakers wasn't that great for dogs and contained so many additives & colourings!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

I don't know what else anyone can add that isn't already in the thread you have read. If you search through a few of the feeding threads you will find plenty more people who are happy with it along with all the fors and against that
every food can muster :-) He likes it, he is presumably thriving, why would you stop?

My BC's are on
Pero Organic(plus their raw meat) they do a trial 2.5 kg puppy food for £5(p&p incl)
My dogs like all the foods from this manufacturer & do well on the Organic, which I prefer as all their other food is organic
Bakers puppy foods
Well,Orijen is extremely palatable as its got such a high meat content-I'm not sure if it quite meets your criteria of reasonable price-but you would feed a lot less of it than Bakers. You do usually get what you pay for.
Your puppy might appear to be doing ok on Bakers but you have to think a few years down the line-I've seen lots of dogs fed on Bakers and they do age very quickly and have more health problems-almost anything is better.

Hi Masonsmum
Pets at Home do there own brands of food at very reasonable prices, and good ingredients.
You can pick up some free samples in PAH for your dog to try before you buy....see if he likes it.
I feed my two poodles natures menu in tins but they also have Royal Canin mini sensible for fussy eaters as I once tried Bakers and my Vet said it really wasn't a very good quality food which is why I feed the above having tried various other good quality foods including nature diet and burns, but finally tried RC and natures menu in tins (not the pouches as the eldest dog wasn't that keen on the natures menu pouches) which are not available anyway at the moment, the consistency is different in the tins so I assume that is why he prefers it. Anyway he seems to eat these 2 foods better than any other i have tried so although they are rather expensive i will stick with them for as long as he eats them.
I get my food delivered from these:
http://www.oscars.co.uk/The man who delivers to me is very knowledgable and has helped me no end with my dogs digestive problems. Give them a ring, ask to speak to someone and get some free samples
