ok so i asked on here a few weeks ago for advice on the end of a season and someone did help me. i was unsure on when it would be safe to let my girl run with males, i was told to look out for her vulva returning no normal and no discharge, which i did. i also waited for a few days after this before i let my brothers male join us on walks.
the problem is a few weeks ago i noticed my girl had put weight on (not difficult with her being a small breed) took her to the vet, she is pregnant!!! the vet thinks she had a split season and she could have been mated before i noticed she was in!! nightmare!!

now she should be due around now, hard to tell as dont know exactly when mated just a guess from scan.
she was scratching up her bed yesterday
has refused food today
drinking loads of water
panting for a short while earlier today
is just sitting staring into space
keeps jumping up and pacing around
the pups ar all moving around so think they are fine.
just wanted to know do you think she is def about to have puppies?

unfortunatly cant turn to her breeder as although she is from good parents and lines it would seem they dont care about the pups they breed!
i have however found suitable homes for the pups before they come and intend to keep one.

sorry for going on just need advice and reassurance
thanks kirstie

Hi Kirstie, someone much more knowlegeable than me will be along soon I'm sure but from what you describe I would say your bitch is close and you shouldn't leave her.
Mine was scratching and panting a lot and also I noticed a stringy clear mucous discharge the day before.
Just wanted to let you know someone is out here and to reassure you that help will be available.
Good luck......

hi kirstie... ok from what you have said your girl could whelp any time or could be the next few days !!!

as she lost any disscharge yet? she sounds like she is in the 1st stage of whelp ...and this can take awhile up to 48h :( ...

do you have a whelping box for her ? is she init alot ...when mine are about to whelp they go very quiet and sleep alot ...

can you see any riples in her tum ?

she will pant alot on and off for along time ...and you say she is small breed ...many small breeds cry out just before (some large breeds do to )

how long as it been since she eaten ?

it can be 12h to 6h after refuseing food

good luck it could be soon :) xx
keep us posted !!

i haven't seen any discharge as yet but she is very clean so not sure i would see much.
she has a whelping box and i set it up a a couple of weeks ago for her to get used to but she wont go in it other than to scratch up the bedding!
she is on her bed just now and keeps jumping up to pace but i have noticed her bump (for want of a better word!) is going to her sides and is tence so im asuming this could be contractions??

she has not eaten since this morning and even then it was minimal (she is usually greedy)  also she has been sleeping loads the last few days but for the last few hours wont lay down at all she is just sitting looking half asleep
thanks kx

I think she's going to be soon, and you musn't leave her.  The staring that you mentioned - she's in pain.  My girls are devils for not wanting the whelping box.  Last litter, I threw bath towels on the living room floor, and laid with her.  Hours (and hours, and hours) later, I carried pups in a box and Mum followed me to the whelping room no problem.

If she doesn't give birth tonight, you're still not going to get any sleep, you need to be ready to help her.  It does sound like you are going to be a mum soon.  Any questions, just throw them at us.  Jean  :-)

If you are certain that she wasn't got at, even though she is putting on weight, she could just be going through the motions and it is actually a false, or phantom pregnancy. Some bitches can actually go through the birthing process, even though they aren't pregnant

In saying that, have you had her at the vet recently? A quick check would have told you if she was just putting on weight.

Sounds like they could be coming soon!

With both my girls though, they went for a practice run, about a week before they actually gave birth.  I could have sworn we were having pups those nights, but nothing!  But hopefully its not that, and you got pups coming soon.  The sleepless nights are killer!

the pupppies are here!!
she starting having contractions but they slowed down as she got more tired so it took 3 hours for number one to come along!
no 2 was backwards and got stuck half out so i had to help her and then as it ook so long we thought she was gone, the vet told me to concentrate on the rest of the litter, but she made it i wouldnt let her go!!
no 3 no prob straight out and ok
no 4 same as 2 but he is also fine now!!
the two that were brought back are the noisiest and are fighting for food the most!!
mum is snoring away as the pups feed.
thanks for everyones advice and reassurance
