Hi all
I am new to this board and although i have read over relevant posts regards weaning probs i am still no further forward in getting my
2 puppies weaned.
They are now 5 wks old today and i have been trying for a week to wean them with a puppy porridge made up from their dried food and warmed goats milk.
Im not sure if i should try a different dried food or even moist food.
The bigger pup will eat for a couple of seconds off of the plate, no interest in the water bowl and the smaller pup will eat a tiny bit of a spoon but no interest whatsoever.
They would rather feed off mum who i have to supervise at all times because she has never been left alone with them from birth as she tries to nip them.
I thought i had done so well with hand rearing at beginning and now ive hit a brick wall and stressing myself out with it.
Hope someone can help....
Why is she nipping them? are you sure she isnt just trying to pick them up or move them?
Read up on the barf diet and give your pups a raw chicken wing to munch on a little bit of chicken mince/beef or tripe.
There are plenty of sites that advise on weaning on to raw, if you just google weaning onto barf.
Louise

I have heard a few people who's puppies wont eat puppy porridge .
what puppy food is Mum on?? soak it in mixed up lactol or whelpi until its mushy and a bit runny put some on your finger and open the puppies mouth gently and pop it on the roof of the mouth once they get the taste you will be away! gradually you can thicken in up and leave out the milk.
Pugs not my breed maybe they are slower at weaning sure pug owners will be along soon .
hi i has the same breed as you i tend to start mine on scambled egg and farleys rusks
once they get the hang and taste of things i then try puppy kibble sofened
hope this helps

I agree with Louise, offer them some minced beef/tripe and i bet they dont turn their noses up at that
I just buy minced beef from the supermarket for the first week or so and they love it, give it go and let us know what they make of it :)
Would you make the scrambled egg and rusks with goats milk?
How often daily would you try this daily?
Is it just me or are pugs typically harder to wean?
Thanks
She had a c-section and was totally uninterested in them from the start.
She constantly moved them away from her as far away as she could and wouldnt go near them even when they were wimpering.
When i forced her to lie down to feed them she actually had a nip at whatever pup she could reach.
And i constantly had to hold her because she kept kicking out to get the pups off her.
Has been very stressful which is why i was handfeeding them every two hours which we accomplished.
Now ive hit a brick wall with weaning.
They are currently fed on Iams puppy with goats milk made up to a mush and offered water also but really no interest whatsoever.
yeah sorry i should have sald goats milk is best
i try them about twice a day just so they get used to eating
some can be slower but once they get use to solids and get the hang of eating and away they go lol
try giving the puppy food mixed in with the egg and once they get to know it i then give egg for breakfast kibble at lunch and tea then farleys before bed
you may need to wet the kibble down for a while till they get used to eating
Thanks for that will try this feeding guide for them.
So the puppy food you describe is just the puppy iams i use the now or will i try another brand?
Many thanks for your help fingers crossed i get on ok...
