Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Arden Grange or CSJ ?

Does anyone have personal expeience of using both of these? Which did your dogs prefer? Currently looking to change from AG to CSJ and seems more cost effective, but am slightly worried as CSJ seems so cheap.

By and large (but not set in stone LOL) you get what you pay for :) As ingredients go, AG contains substantially more fresh meat/poultry/fish and much less cereal (and 'bakery' products ....) than CSJ however that does not mean it wont suit your dog but IMO is a consideration that you would be best to weigh up.

Were I to feed the CSJ range, I personally would feel the need to use it as a mixer only with fresh meat, poultry and fish and that being the case it would probably work out more expensive than AG or similarly better end dry completes :)

regards, Teri

I feed CSJ  ;)

There is a wide range of foods within the brand with different levels of meat and using different cereals.

The one I use suits my dogs, yes it's very cheap, compared to the Burns they were on  -  they look and feel totally different on this.  Excellent coats and skin, good muscle, clean teeth and ears.  Good energy levels but not hyper.

I have to be careful about the amount of Maize my dogs get, it causes problems with their ears and they get itchy skin ;)

If you want to check out the whole range here's a link

Essentially CSJ has 3 versions of each food -a cheap one, a mid range one and an expensive one -and the expensive one definitely isn't cheap. :) I cannot say anything about it yet as I am to collect my first bags tomorrow -but as it has been used for some years now by the top breeder in my breed and her dogs always look great, so I feel it should be safe enough to try out. :)

I used to feed CP21/24 but stopped when I found it difficult to source, now we have someone supplying again my area the boys are being swopped back onto it from Genesis whcih was nearly £45 a sack the CP is £28 a sack so there is quite a price difference.

It was the OP who referred to the CSJ food as 'cheap'

My pup didn't get on with CSJ (Command Performance range) at all, was very thin on it and produced a lot of poo (and, without subjecting you to the details, I mean A Lot).  Have him on Arden Grange now and he's looking great.  As a previous poster said, you also have to feed larger quantities of the CSJ than Arden Grange, so it may not (in fact, probably won't) work out any cheaper.
I was sufficiently impressed by Arden Grange to move my older dog onto it from Burns so that both dogs would end up eating the same food - she prefers it to Burns and looks just as good on it.

I currently feed Arden Grange. My pup was on AG large breed puppy/junior but has just been diagnosed with food allergies so I needed an alternative.

The ingredients and analysis of CSJ CP 24 active is very similar but without the fish my boy can't have.
The command performance range seems good as do some of the original range. I'm personally not so sure about the champ range, but then all dogs are different so may suit some.

If you phone CSJ Feeds they will send you some samples to try.

Sorry Teri I just picked up on the fact you said you'd personally only use it as a mixer -could be one expensive mixer. :)

Two of our dogs have been on CSJ Command Performance for a few years, when I decided to change them to Arden Grange instead (personal reasons, nothing to do with food quality). They were on Arden Grange Salmon and Rice as well as Chicken and Rice for about 6 months and did mostly well on it (the C&R didn't agree with our pyrenees though), but I had to feed very small amounts to stop them from putting on weight. Now that was of course great for my purse, but I do feel sorry for the dogs if they've just got a few kibble in their bowl and they don't really feel satisfied after a meal!

So I swapped them back to CSJ, this time (I admit... to save money) to Herbie Nuts. They can eat more again and look great on it, and it's still kind on my bank balance.

Our dogs like both Arden Grange as well as CSJ, but then they are generally easy pleased.
