Thought I'd update you all on our conversations with the KC and ICO re data on the discover dogs passes for validation.
The KC insist that it is required for auditing numbers, still no clue as to where or who has them etc.
ICO on the other hand say - an organisation has to show why it is NECESSARY to collect that data and the REASON said data needs to be collected too.
So is it NECESSARY for the KC to have your personal information just to audit numbers - NO.
Before the ICO can investigate a complaint you have to write/email the organisations for an explanation as to why it is necessary to collect your data along with the purpose, unfortunately as we are so close to Crufts there isn't going to be time for that, I am however going to send them an Email with my concerns and asking WHY they feel it necessary to collect that data, not sure about the girls helping on the DD booth now as they're not happy about the purpose of this ergo not prepared to risk their personal data in this way.

I am still unclear what risk you think they are running. We give our details to the KC all the time. I know it is not the point but personally, at this moment in time, I am more than happy for the KC to have as much detail as they want on anyone who is attending Crufts in any kind of "official" capacity.
I would guess they are wishing to audit as these are after all free ticket of some value being handed out and they may wish to confirm at some point that they went to the people intended who really did serve in DD area.

If those stubs go into a bag at the door then its a risk, security staff are collecting that not the KC, what if it gets lost and someone uses it to steal ID? Their explanation re auditing numbers just isn't good enough, if they're 'checking' who's doing it and where then fine tell the truth, they have to show why it is necessary to collect this information. As the KC issue these tickets it would be far safer to have each breed club send a list of volunteers details, with permission, then send tickets direct to said individuals, they then get all the perosnal details they required but in a SAFER MANNER, then cross refference those details against the ticket stubs post show!
