Following on from yesterdays success at Coventry, I have been talking to Shana about junior handling. When we discussed this previously she wasn't interested as she wants to show Malachai, not herself. But I feel that it would help with her presentation of Chai in the breed ring if she tried it, and she has agreed (sort of advanced ring craft). So how do we go about it? Does she have to join the YKC or another organisation (vague memories of a JHA)? Advice please on how we go about this. Thanks very much.

She does not actually need to join any of the YKC or JHA - but if she qualifies for the JHA Semi-Finals at Richmond - in order to compete she will need to join the JHA.  Similarly with the YKC classes.

But having said that would highly recommend she joins the YKC anyway - has some great info.

Do you have a ringcraft that runs Junior Handling classes?

Great website for loads of info here:

There's not much differance.  She will need to show the dog to prove her ability as a handler and is a great 2nd class for some dogs (as if you go BOB or BP they still get the 2nd class experiance.

Simple way to go about it is to enter the class and go in :)  The finer points of handling will come with watching and learning and ringcraft and training days etc.  the above post link is maintained by an ex top junior handler and look out for their next training day (would contact now if intrested to be the first to know as they become filled up pretty quick)

Any questions in particular just ask away on here, there's afew of us ex juniors lurking aswell as JH mum's who are learning everything pretty quickly!  (My Dad soon went from supporting father, to trainer, to top adult handler ;)
