One of my dachshunds has been sick and is now acting a little strange. She was only sick a little and it was white foam but now she seems really restless and keeps getting up and moving quickly to another part of the room before sitting there staring. Its really unusual behaviour for her as she is a very lazy dog and tends to lay in her bed unless there is something going on. She has never been ill before though so this might be normal for her when she is ill. She seems alright in all other ways, good cold nose, nice pink gums and has eaten a little and drank some water since she was sick. Its just this running around that is worrying me, she keeps asking to be picked up onto the settee then as soon as she is up she wants back down. I have let her out a few times but she doesnt go to the toilet and just wants straight back in. Do you think i am worrying over nothing or should i call the vet?

Can she have eaten anything she shouldn't ?
It might be better taking her before they close tonight so you don't pay for an out of hours service .
Maybe you should give it a little longer and see how she goes , but you know her best .
Sometimes it is better to be safe than sorry .
Let us know how she goes .

As far as i know she hasnt eaten anything she shouldnt have but i am starting to worry now. I was gardening a little yesterday and am so paranoid ive unearthed something poisonous without realising it. Her pupils dont look dilated or anything but she does have a bit of a worried look to her eyes. I will see how she gets on in the next half hour. What other symptoms are there of poisoning?

Symptoms vary depending on what the cause is, if you are concerned about her it's best to take her to the vet.

I had a dog acting similar (seemed restelss, wouldn't settle, appeared to have belly ache, kept wanting to go in garden but not 'toileting',) & I had him in on an emergency apoitment fearing he had bloat, turned out to be a minor tummy upset, but I'm glad I took him in.

I hope she's fine, keep us posted.

Just called vet couldnt wait the half hour. Her appointment isnt until 6pm :( hope she is fine to wait till then. Will let you know the outcome.

She will probably be bouncing around and wondering why you are fussing by 6pm  !!!
Fingers crossed she is OK .

I hope she is bouncing by then. Can always cancel the appointment. She is sleepng now on my knee but still seems like she doesnt settle for long before she wakes up as if she cant get comfortable. Ive noticed that she also has quite alot of dandruff on her back and she doesnt normally.  Her skin is a bit flakey in places, maybe she is allergic to something. I will be keeping a close eye on her till 6.

> I,m afraid the first thing that came in my mind was bloat, having large breed dogs its never more than a thought away but unfortunately any breed can suffer with it.

I hope the little dogs ok and soon feeling better.

Would suggest that the running around is because she is in pain, glad to hear the dog is at the vets and hope there is a simple explanation.

Hello sorry its taken so long to get back to you all. The vet thinks it is gastro enteritis or a 24hr stomach bug. She took her temp and said it was high :-( She said if it doesnt get better she will be tested for pancreatitis but she thinks its unlikely to be that. She had some metacam and antibiotics and antacid tablets for her food and has to be starved till tomorrow night. Poor little Chula :-( she seems alot more settled now and has had a good drink of milky water and gone straight to sleep.  Hope it doesnt last too much longer for her she seems so sorry for herself. Thank you all for your thoughts x Kim
