Hi, My litter is now 6 weeks old and thriving well. They are completely paper trained and using the garden too (small breed).

Anyway, to date i have cleaned up only about 5 poos! I know that sounds lucky but they are going to their new homes soon and we are keeping one so want/need mum to stop eating it. If i notice them going i get mum out and pick it up but i notice they are doing it then turning to eat it too? so i am up against mum and pups.

How can i stop this happening?I think they must do it over night in the main as i am sure i would notice it happening and be able to stop it more during the day as always with them.

When the pups go that resolves half teh issue but i dont want the new owners watching their pups consume their toilet! Also with keeping one i need it to stop cause it is horrid!!! Thought about putting bitter spray on one if i can catch it in action.

Put a little pinapple juice in their dinner, this is supposed to help them stop eating their own poo.  My pup was doing this for a while as well, , but , has now stopped this.

Pineapple is very acidic.  I am not sure I would like to give it to such young puppies.  Better to just be there to immediately clear up poos and hopefully break their habit I would suggest.

Hi, i had heard about pineapple juice but i was concerned it would upset their tummies at this stage. I will give that to my boy that is staying if it continues but would wait till he was a bit older.

I am trying to catch them but my concern is i dont see it happening very often i just know i dont see poo!!! They have started pooing in the garden and mum is straight there trying to sort them so i tell her off she is vigilent beyond belief but i think 6 weeks is long enough.

I would not worry about mother.  Some do carry on doing this for longer that others but she has to stop when they are gone!
The puppies will hopefully also kick the habit.  I have it in my head that you have a toy breed so I assume they are not going for quite a few weeks yet.

Mum is very obsessive, if it is just her i will be able to manage it easier when i am down to the one i am keeping as he will then move forward to crate training.

They are pugs and are going at 8.5 weeks. They are eating food well and very extravert so need to hold them back any longer. They feed from mum only once a day in the evening now and that isnt because they are hungry!!!

Ok, so i won't worry at this stage, i just expected to have a house smelling of puppy poo and constant poop patrol but mum is just so vigilent. :)

Hi our pug was still cleaning up the poop too & still letting them all have a fly suckle at 8 weeks! think thats quite the norm for toy breeds...with what i hear!
I wouldnt worry about it as long they all happy & healthy little souls...good to hear that mum is a devotee to her babes
are you getting them innoc before they go as my vet at 8 weeks recommended mine to stay well after their first jag at 8 weeks then at 10 weeks we had the other to complete vaxs..so i did keep them till 11 & half weeks...it did keep me safe knowing they were all ready for the outdoors
by 11 & half weeks mum by then certainly did not clean up any poop! infact she was glad to see the back of them! (one did stay tho)

Hi, they are all having their first vac at 7 weeks so we will have them a week and a half before they go off.
Now they are going in the garden it seems slightly less of a problem. I came down at 7am this morning and mum goes straight out and all the pups wanted to go too so i took them. Everyone did a poop outside and none got eaten!!!

Hopefully this is progress. I do think mum will be glad to see the back of them and as they have milked the back off her and she is all bristley from lack of coat i think she could do with getting back into her full glory too!

As for suckling she only lies down for them in the late evening the rest of teh time she won't stand still although they do hang off her as she walks!!!
