> Did your cross breeds parents have health tests?

Very valid point Kim.  At least when I had personal experience of a mating accident, I could at least say hand on heart that health tests had been carried out on both breeds concerned.

Hi Ginger puggle!

Welcome to the forum :)
You have probably stumbled across it through an internet search link perhaps..as you seem to have chosen to post on a thread that is nearly 4 years old!!
I'm sure you can appreciate that attitudes may have changed since then.... ?
Sadly however as we are seeing in many of what in The UK we are calling 'Designer breeds' (in a disparaging tone I'll freely admit) many problems with ill thought out crosses, as many back yard breeders jumped on I can make money wagon :( and so the health of many of these dogs has suffered and no-one wants to see that.
This forum is called champdogs and it is just that, many of the members here have champion dogs and are champ/crufts level judges and have been breeding very carefuly for many many years (some more years than you have been alive ;)) They have studied genetics and the impact there of on conformation temprament and health. So if they are dismissive it is for good reason and not any personal notion per se.
many others among our members work for breed and charity dog rescues and they will Im sure be happy to tell you that you'r comment on Labradoodles being non allergic are sadly now proving to be incorrect as their owners give them up to rescues :(

Your little one sounds truly adorable :) So I can completely understand why you are so worked up... but remember that anyone saying anything negative about this cross breed is only doing so out of concern for the future of these dogs and their owners.

I would hope that any members replying to this thread will bear in mind your age and inexperience and that behaviour breeds behaviour if someone launches in handbag waving its easy to reply in the same vein..howver as the old adage goes.. you catch more flies with Homey than vinegar :)

Hello ginger_puggle and welcome

You landed well,  with an old thread that when brought to life will activate many a wagging tongue, tut tut tut.

The thing is this site is used by lots of old birds that know a thing or two about breeding dogs and when you mention crossing breeds and the wonderful results you're going to get a smack in the chops!

Sometimes cross breeding can produce a gem of a personality and you can get a truely sweet dog, but this cannot be a sure thing, you take pot luck, whereas breeding from pure health tested lines you do have stronger chance of getting what you expected.

So continue to enjoy your lovely dog, but also listen and learn from the old girls on this site, I promise you they frightened the pants off me when I first joined, but they're not all a bunch of ogres and they do have some good info :)

Hey some of us are even not that old LOL.

Stick around Ginger and read a few more of the threads on breeding and rescue etc.

Also im sure many breeders are trying to make pugs healthier than they are now without crossing just by simply breeding from healthier examples, aiming on improving the breed, which is after what breeding is all about. People that breed these crosses purposefully dont have the breeds best interest at heart and they are just supplying for the pet market which is sometimes frowned upon when they are charging £1500 for a crossbreed. Often neither parents have any of the the health tests required for breed and after all with most crossbreeds its a lottery on what the puppies will be like every single puppy could be different to one another. You have to think that if they are not trying to improve the recognised breed what are they doing it for? Where not against the dogs as we are all dog lovers. we just dont like any canine being exploited.

Louise
