I was wondering how people chose their kennel name, all replies welcome. :)

I just choose a letter and then mixed around the other letters till I found a name I liked. Some people use the place they live, the name of their home. or a name from abroad..

We used my name and Oh and played around with them

i don't have one yet for myself but i'm musing on perhaps something around my OH's first love- his football team. i figure its the least i can do with what i'll probably put him through and cost him as i get into showing etc :)

From the breed's country of origin - We chose the name we liked best from an area there :)  Quite easy if a non UK breed but perhaps offers less opportunities with a native one

Mine is a mixture of my dogs' names, as they are number 1 in my eyes.

Named after a dutch warmblood horse I had in the 70's.

After the 2 breeds I own, now 3 breeds though!

My affix is in two parts, first half is the first 3 letters of the first dog me and my husband had and the last 3 is where Lions sleep,

mine is named after an animal that puppy tibetan spaniels remind me of as they are extremely violent with each other as pups!

I am thinking about applying for a kennel name at the moment. My idea has been to mix the three names of the dog I grew up with, the first dog I owned and the first dog of my current breed. I have come up with a few alternatives but only really like one of them enough to use. Maybe I will have to watch this thread for other ideas.

Ours means "beautiful companion" in Egyptian, which I think is apt for both breeds :-D

DH's kennel name is the name of our old house, not that he gets to use it much :-P

A couple of things to bear in mind when choosing an affix:
Make sure you really like it! You will be stuck with it and if six months or a year down the line you do not like it you will be stuck with it!
Also do not get an affix which suits the breed you have now, because in the years ahead you might decide to change breeds. (example you start out with a small breed with lots of coat so choose puffyfluff, then later you change or add another breed which is huge and short coated) lol

I chose my affix because at the time I could not get Tythrop were I was living, but my second choice was Foxpath which I got. I chose it because I had a huge garden and at the end of the garden there was a stone flag path which always got the early morning sun. Often I would wake up and look down the garden and there would be a big vixen sat on the path sunning herself. She was a wiley old fox too, year after year she would lose the hunt by cutting through my garden running behind the coal bunker and sheds and then sliping off towards the ponds. My first choice of affix Tythrop was some years later granted to a border terrier lady who moved into the village, but by then I was more than happy with Foxpath for my gundogs.

I had thought of looking up the old place names of the area I lived in, many towns and villages have changed names over time. The village I live in now was originally called Haeddas Homestead, through the centuries it had many names including Nedreham. You can get books from the library with these old place names and the changes they have gone through. I got out one for Buckinghamshire where I am and one for Cumberland where I was born, before deciding on Foxpath.

Many of the football teams had links to other things, which might inspire you. Obviously some are well known and obvious, but they also had team mascots, if I remember rightly one of the premier league teams when they first started out, had a flatcoat as their team mascot. Might be worth looking into the teams history?

My parents afix is made up of first two letters of everyone's first name (threw alot of people as my mum uses her middle name) but we really like it :)

Now I have to decide - my own affix or joint intrest/partnership!

Mine is a mixture,

it references my first bitch, and how she came to us,

it also refers to their type of coat,

and it could also be the name of our house/cottage :-D  Very tempting :)

MILLER - I am a Rotherham United fan (Rotherham being my home-town) and was a season ticket holder before I was involved in dogs, so a lot of my time was spent going to matches both home and away... Rotherham Utd's nickname is The Millers...

DAN - Is taken from the name of MY first ever Labrador, Danny, so

Our website is luphen, half a Lucy half a Stephen (my hubby) so I tried for that but wasn't allowed, however they were ok if I stuck 'ex' on the end to make it Luphenex. Still only 8 letters so not too bad. :-)

Mine is easy to, the first bit is the start of the name of my breed and adore (because I do adore them lol) is added on so its all one word.

Mine was a mixture of the names of my very first poodle, Donna, and the poodle I was showingat the time, Saska, = Donaska

mine is the names of my two tt girls - LIL and AILSA and they all like to sing along to corrie and they love classical music  so LILASONG :-)

Mine is the name of the road we live in, translated into English.

my affix is after my samoyed who passed away at 2 1/2 very unxpectantly, obvoiusly not the breeders affix but the name she added. it means brave in Russian and it suited him as he was a very brave boy to the end and a fitting tribute to him

mine was my 4 th choice bu im actually pleased its this one rater than the others now. i wouldnt say it has much to with the breed or any breed but it does reflect me. i always have at least 1 pet called angel, so i know i have always got an angel looking after me, and my kennel name reflects the heavenly theme.

My affix is that of a card game, the idea being that my current breed's 2 main colons are the same as a pack of cards (red and black), but it also breaks down to meaning tower or hillside in irish (gaelic I think) and star in sanskrit Both have a nice link to BCs (hillsides for the borders and star both in the context of being stars as well as aiming for them :)

Its an affix I can see working for almost any breed thankfully

Mine is the first part of the latin name for the Coltsfoot plant, as I grew up on a road called Coltsfoot. So it seemed pretty apt really! :-D
