You know how one topic makes you think of something else...

If someone were to use a dog you owned to mate a bitch without your knowledge or approval - is that theft?  What could you do about it?

I'm not commenting on the previous thread because I don't know the exact circumstances but I recently had a bad dream that my dog went to stay with a friend and when I picked him up 2 days later (eek!!) there was a litter of 14 puppies (an unfortunate sorry looking bunch that were half and half - heads of one breed, legs of another etc, not blended just plonked together like a game of misfit)  Thank goodness it doesn't quite happen like this :)  It did make me wonder though and then this recent thread reminded me.

Does anyone know if it's ever happened?  What is the legal position?

Just musing - though I may never leave mine anywhere, ever, again :)

Simple answer you don't give the stud forms puppies don't get registered, who's to say it was your dog that did the deed - you didn't witness it.  That would be my take on it, like you, I would ever leave my dog with someone who had a bitch to service :-O

Someone once tried this with one of my mums dogs. Her dog was out in the garden and she was standing at the kitchen window doing dishes or something when she saw her neighbour lowering her bitch into the garden in a washing basket! She left the two dogs in the garden to play thinking nothing of it then went to the next door neighbour to say it was time for her to go home, the owner of the bitch pretended she didnt know her bitch was in the garden and said something like "oh she must have jumped the wall because she is in season!" My mum said oh well its a good job my boy is neutered lol which he was. The woman next door obviously thought she was pulling a fast one. Her dog wasnt a pedigree and neither was my mums dog so i dont know what she thought she was going to achieve!

How do you prove it was not an accident ?

Really unless you can prove it you have two choices , no papers OR papers when stud fee paid. :-)

Can't think of anything else at the Mo :-)
