Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Help needed from Sheltie peeps please

My sheltie Isla (8 months) was entered into the Rivermeade Leisure Centre Show at Reading on Saturday.  She did a bit better than the last time (this was her second show) and got a VHC and a 4th in the AV Pastoral Group Puppy.

Her coat has come on quite well now - she is a shaded sable.  But looking at some of the other shelties we thought that despite our efforts (brushing and combing etc) she looks a bit untidy around the ears.  My sheltie book says you can use thinniing scissors around them and pluck the hairs out from inside (gently).  I am not really clear how they should look though.  Does anyone else tidy up the ears and if so, how?

Would be grateful for advice!

Thanks

Hi, yes we tidy our boy's ears up for a show.  The best thing to do is have a good look at other dogs her age, then just take a little off at a time.  Thinning scissors are better and then you won't take too much off.  I never pluck any hairs, it just isn't needed.
Buy a book that shows you Shelties in the show ring etc.  Try e-bay thats where i got mine from.  Jan Moody also has a video that shows you how she does it.
Hope that helps Yvonne.
