Ollie went for a biopsy on Monday, and ever the optimist was hoping for a better result...

Sadly the good result didnt come and My Spawn of Satan has been diagnosed with Canine Malignant Histiocytosis.. I am gutted, and totally knocked for six, I never expected this ... :-(

He goes in for an operation to hopefully remove as much as we can, on Monday morning 8.30am

Needing all your healing thoughts for him please..

after x-rays.. they found more than they bargained for.. 3 more tumours..

They found another on his upper thigh, and when they shaved the area to operate .. the skin was so badly inflamed, they also suspect Mast Cell.. and have taken a good chunk away..

they have removed more than they had to in the hope that they have managed to take away clean tissue too..

Only thing I can do now is way on the histo results..

- By Isabel Date 02.03.09 12:16 UTC
So sorry to hear this Kay :-(  I hope better news come with the histology and the excisions are complete.
- By rachelsetters Date 02.03.09 13:11 UTC
Big Hugs to you and Ollie Kay - so sorry that the news was not so good - fingers crossed for more positive results soon.

Love to you both at this very difficult time.
- By Gunner [gb] Date 02.03.09 16:35 UTC
OMG....I remember your posts about the 'Spawn of Satan' when he was a pup! :-)  From what I recall, he's a tough, strong-willed little 'fighter' and I'm sure he'll do his damndest to pull through and fight anything that's thrown at him.
- By Teri Date 02.03.09 16:52 UTC
Oh no Kay - you're really going through the mill and Ollie too :(

Please God what's already been removed is all that needs to be.  I'm rooting for the little mischief maker that he's on the road to recovery with prayers and healing thoughts heading his way.

{{{hugs}}} to you meantime.  I know this isn't easy for you.

Positive and healing thoughts coming from us.
- By kayc [gb] Date 03.03.09 07:24 UTC
I thought he was going to be rather sore and stiff today, got up at 6am to spend some quality time with him before the rest of the gang surfaced.. and Ollie bounced and whirled in his usual head down, eyes closed, nothing gets in my way fashion :-O.. while he was outside for ablutions, I was in the kitchen putting kettle on and getting his breakfast, his head keep bouncin up at the kitchen window...

Spawn of Satan is back :-) :-)
- By white lilly [gb] Date 03.03.09 10:22 UTC
bless him and i hope all comes back good ((hugs)) xx
- By AliceC Date 03.03.09 11:13 UTC
I hope he stays this way Kay - he sounds like a wonderful character :-)
- By Teri Date 03.03.09 11:44 UTC
Bless him :)  Let's hope he continues in his wicked ways to delight and delinquentise (I think that should be a word :-D ) all around him for a long, long time!

Hugs to Ollie and you,
Teri x

I have just caught up with this post. I hope that all goes well with Ollie.

Take care and give him a hug
- By newfiedreams Date 03.03.09 19:02 UTC
Kay, even God loved/loves Satan, so Ollie is well covered in the prayers he's getting! :-)
- By Gunner [gb] Date 03.03.09 19:17 UTC
Ha!  Glad to hear that the 'Spawn of Satan' is back on form! Let's hope that it continues.
- By kayc [gb] Date 03.03.09 19:38 UTC
Thankyou :-)

A loving happy boy who I adore, and bred, and gave him this name at just 12 weeks, as a loving term of endearment.. everyone on this list, and others, and in the showring know him by this name.. I never dreamed that a person could misconstrue his name for anything other than a term of endearment..

I do believe in God, and in prayer, and feel sad that a person could use my Ollie, in this way, just for the sake of argument :-)

and to clarify his name
Daimon Hellstrom, also known as the Son of Satan and Hellstorm, is a fictional character in the Marvel Comics 'Universe'.. Hellstrom could gain enough thrust to levitate and to fly for short periods of time.  Ollie,  believes he can fly.. have you ever seen his take off and landings lol ;-)

some people/religions regard the Biblical Satan as an allegory that represents individualism, free will, wisdom and enlightenment

in a totally NON religious concept, Ollie is all of the above.. (especially the free will part .. Grrr) lol

thank you for your well wishes .. everyone :-)

Oh.. and his KC name.. is Xeus.. (another God) ;-)
- By HuskyGal Date 03.03.09 20:48 UTC

> his head keep bouncin up at the kitchen window...

  ((( Gert big GRIN!! ))))
            :-D
You can't keep a good lad down! Im soo happy to hear the 'wee divil' is back on form Kay :-D
Atta boy Ollie!!
- By tadog [gb] Date 03.03.09 22:05 UTC
Kay, I am so sorry. I know how you are feelilng, I am awaiting my girls result from last week and it doesnt look good. Why do we do this to ourselves? Rhudyard Kipling got it correct didnt he....)))))hugs(((((
- By newfiedreams Date 03.03.09 23:17 UTC
Kay, I think most of us with any sense will know all about Ollie and his ermm...issues???? ;-) We know it's a term of endearment, again I think it's the people out to cause trouble and trying(but failing) to create an issue when there isn't one...hugs to Ollie, true Spawn of the Devil and a hard act to follow!
- By kayc [gb] Date 05.03.09 10:45 UTC
Ollie's results came back this morning :-(

The three smaller lumps are hysticytoma's, and completely removed with good clear tissue surrounding..

the other two are not so good.. both were mast cell.. including the huge tumour on his leg

Mast Cell has 3 grades, 1 being good(if you could call cancer good), 2 is not so good.. and 3 prognosis is very poor..

Ollie's has come back as grade 3

I cant find very much on the net to give me much encouragement.. everything I read is dire..

(Prognosis/Grade-3 MCT or metastasis: Only 15% of dogs with Grade 3 MCT will be alive 7 months after surgery, and only 6% will be alive after 2 years. Once mast cell cancer has metastasized, dogs tend to die within 6 months as the symptoms of systemic illness (e.g., gastric ulcers) can no longer be managed and the animal loses its quality of life)

I dont know whether I am coming or going at the moment
- By marie pritchard [gb] Date 05.03.09 10:52 UTC
Kay. Im so sorry that the results weren't better, i cant offer any advice, but just lots of healing thoughts prays ,and hope for Ollie xx
- By Isabel Date 05.03.09 10:57 UTC
Kay, I am so sorry to hear this :-(  I hope so much that Ollie is one of the luck ones.
- By Teri Date 05.03.09 10:58 UTC
Kay darling, I'm heartbroken for you :(

I don't have any personal experience of anything like this but it doesn't sound good from what you've written.  I wish I had something educated, optimistic and deeply meaningful to say but I'm lost for words :(

Many prayers are being said for you all and will continue for however long you need them.
The tightest of hugs for you and gentle ones for Ollie

Kay, already replied to you but just wanted to say again that I am thinking of you
xx
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 05.03.09 11:39 UTC
Kay, I'm so very, very sorry. :-( :-( I hope that Ollie will be one of the lucky ones. Whatever the outcome I know you won't allow him to suffer.
- By AlisonGold [gb] Date 05.03.09 11:44 UTC
Kay, firstly I am so sorry that the diagnosis isn't good.
The internet is wonderful but there are miracles out there. I have been on a Lymphoma group since my girl was diagnosed with Lymphoma. Now I wasn't one of the lucky ones but there is a dog on there that was diagnosed in Sept 2005 and is still here in remisssion. What I am trying to say is miracles do happen, and I am prayer that Ollie is one of them. But for now I know exactly where your head is at.
- By kayc [gb] Date 05.03.09 11:58 UTC
Many thanks everyone.. I am feeling a bit lost at the moment.. but loads of 'hopeful' information is being sent to me.. from here and other lists..  some look hopeful.. and holistic :-)

Ollie is young.. only 3years and otherwise a very fit and healthy boy.. and I am hoping that this will give him a good 'head start'

We are going to start him on prednisione and anti-histamines for a couple of months (not long term) but we are not going down the chemo route..

Whatever I choose for him will give him quality of life for him, not to prolong it for me .. hard as that may be :-)
- By rachelsetters Date 05.03.09 12:05 UTC
So very sorry to hear the results Kay x

I hope you continue you enjoy this mad beast and he is his nutty self for much longer to come x

Sending big hugs xx
- By Teri Date 05.03.09 12:07 UTC
Good to know there's hope for Ollie. Kay :)  And nobody could ever doubt that you'll do what's best for him.

God bless, Teri x
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 05.03.09 17:35 UTC
So sorry to hear the results, but I'm sure that no matter how long he has left he will have a great life as he already has had.

Give him an extra hug from me tonight.
