Went into local village yesterday and happened (as you do!) to walk past small shoeshop with sale sign up so HAD to go in. Managed to get new pair of shows for Crufts - which I did NEED- were £75 reduced to £14.99! Bargain. Only 1 pair left and in my size, they are so comfy.
Don't think anyone will be able to beat this though. Just before Christmas I was looking for a shirt for hubby who is horrendous to buy for anyway and I spotted (in Primark) really nice cotton, striped shirt. Really nice button detail, just his size and only £9. Took it to the checkout and it had been reduced to £1!!! Couldn't quite believe it but it was not a mistake. Hubby likes shirt so all happy! Didn't tell him the price mind you! What is your best buy/bargain??

My best is a cashmere cardigan from M&S (in the days when cashmere was far more expensive than it is these days). It was on the sale rack but the price wasn't marked, so I asked the check out operator to check the price for me. It came up at 1p and they sold it to me for that price!

I found in the local tesco's that they had mispriced the dried chives and a jar worked out at 0.01p per jar ! I cleared the shelves and still have a few jars left :-) ( I have run out of ideas for recipes that need dried chives LOL ! )

We have a store called Valu Village.  Its a used store, where people donate all kinds of things.  I get some really good bargains there, and they also have a 50% off day each season.  So on the one time I went, I got a bag of 12 bath towels (really nice ones, some still had the price sticker on from Walmart) and picked them up for $0.50!  So the ones that had the stickers still on them, I washed and use for regular bath towels, and the ones that were obviously used, I cut up to make rags, or use them as dog blankets.

I also got a wool coat that I needed for work, in a black colour, and goes to the ground, for $12.  When I got to work, everyone liked my coat, asked where I got it, and how much I paid for it.  When I told them that I got it at Value Village, and I only paid $12 for it, they were so mad!  One girl just got a coat similar to mine, and paid $150 for it!  hehehe

My Cottage, bought it for £19,000 12 years ago, and its worth £250,000 now!!
The cottage across the field from us, same as mine with acre garden, sold for £249,000 2 weeks ago!!

Kenya - gotta love the Aberdeenshire property market :-)

My flat: bought it 5 years ago for £45K - it's now worth about £100K (and that's in Seaton of all places - those familiar with Aberdeen will understand)

My dogs: a 21st birthday gift from mum

A ball gown I bought (which I am at present starving myself of chocolate to fit into) cost me £20, reduced from £200!!!!  Looks awful on a hanger which is why I think noone wanted it so I tried it on for a laugh but it moulded itself to my body like it was made for me.

Gains on property values are a funny thing.  You don't actually gain anything if it is your home and you would still need a home if you sold it, if you follow me, and if it is not your home the tax man gets a huge chunk of the profit :-)

I love bargain hunting, my best one so far I think has to be a pinstriped 'Planet' suit, brand new, still with the £165 price tag on.....for £10 in a charity shop!!!! :-D

And to what Isabel said above, yes, property value is a difficult one, we have 'made' approx £70k on our house in the 7 years we've had it, but we'll never actully see that money as 'cash' unless we sell up and go and live in a shed in the middle of a field :-)

oh you think? ;)

not mine but... my mum bought a brand new with tags armani ladies suit from ebay for... £15.00. it is gorgeous and fit her perfectly. the person who sold it had bought it as a diet incentive for something like £400 and she never lost the weight so just wanted rid of it
- By Granitecitygirl [eu] Date 26.02.09 16:38 UTC
Wow Astarte! Now that is a bargain!
As to propert prices, yes, I agree on the whole, however it was my first property and I would not have been able to afford to get on the propert ladder had the prices increased :-)

I see myself moving to Scotland or Wales at this rate with the property prices as they are should i ever get a deposit together.

I bought a dining table with 6 chairs and a sideboard at auction for £220.  1950's scandinavian influence British designer but unmarked in the catalogue.

The following week I saw the sideboard in an interior design mag with a price label of £1450 - I've still got mine.  I sold the dining table and chairs for £900 on eBay.  Even when the value goes down again that sideboard owes me nothing!

I bought a pair of £75 French Connection shoes in a sale for £12.50, intending to wear them to my brother's wedding as they went perfectly with a dress I had.  Ended up changing my outfit at the last minute and wore a different pair of shoes and sold the FC pair on ebay....for £57!

Vivienne Westwood sunglasses for £11 (reduced because they were 'broken' but the bit that had come off was still with the glasses and just needed to be snapped back into place...which I did at the till seconds after paying for them :-D)

hmmmmm a few. was looking for a dog coat for my boy a few months ago, and my friend had bought a gorgeous one for her cairn terrier, £12.99 from local equi-centre, padded, water proof and reflective strips. i was looking online at ones around £35-40. went into equi store, the girl was lovely, measured up my boy, got him a coat, it fitted him perfectly. went to till and she said "that'll be £12.99"....i looked at her and said "are you sure?" she said yeah, all coats same price. the one i bought was second largest, my boy is a fair size! im so used to his stuff being more expensive.
also, bought a lovely yellow jacket in new look last year, was £40 down to £20, got to till and it was £8!! such a good feeling.

I was working as a volunteer for a charity and was sent to see a young girl who had a few problems with her X, the charity was attached to a big company and the Group Marketing Manager came with me, got talking to the girl and said i was single parent turns out he was as well. He moved in three weeks later and weve been married 18 years now!

i saved over £300 at ikea on a leather sofa that was in the bargain corner as it had 2 scuff marks on it,which i didnt mind as the dogs would soon scuff it slightly anyway!

Not so much a bargin but a nice surprise.

Saw a shirt in new look yesterday that I liked.  £18 and offer of £5 off.  Got to the till and of course VAT was then reduced, then with student discount...£11.45!  :-D  I love getting things cheeper then the label.

Also Dad brought my suit, Jacket £139, Skirt £69, decided I could have it with the fact it fitted me so well and "you get what you pay for"  Went to pay (after having it on hold in shop to see if there was anything else anywhere) and the lady said "oh the skirts free"  Now another jacket I saw in another brand had this offer on, but no nice skirts, but this brand was also included!  so all very happy!:)

Todays bargains were from Homebase. Large outdoor pots reduced from £29.99 to £4.99 and £19.99 to £3 to make space for new stock.

I've found bargain boots, bra's, top's, jeans, pot's pans, caravans and cars all for ok prices, but never a cashmere cardi for a penny, that is the ulimate shopping coup and I would suggest we must all take lessons from Lily Mc, shopping guru :)
