A Breeder that I know locally has phoned me for advice this evening, she has 3 13wk old puppies left from a litter of 7, all injected health test etc etc, Originally I thought she was asing far too much fr them and now has reduced them but is still left with them.  Anyway today she has had a call from the buyer from harrods pet store asking if she is interested in selling them to the store.  She called her back so not a scam.  I have said no definately not, I don't know much about Harrods but don't think its right to sell them in a department store.  Can you give me some feed back, she is ringing me again tomorrow.

It's a shop and they will sell them to anyone that comes in the door with the money.  She will probably never know what happened to them.  If she really can't cope perhaps her breed rescue may help, perhaps for a donation.

The KC Code of Ethics bans the selling of puppies to shops or other agents.

13. Will not sell any dog to commercial dog wholesalers, retail pet dealers or directly or indirectly allow dogs to be given as a prize or donation in a competition of any kind."

She could find herself in trouble.

Please, please tell her not to sell them to a department store.  This is not the environment that puppies should be in!  Have recently read on another forum about puppies being sold from there and someone that visited the store said they had no toys or any stimulation, and a certain breed (guess i can't mention here) was being sold for £1500, which was £700 to £800 over the average cost from a reputable non commercial breeder.

This may sound blunt, but as your friend bred these puppies then she is responsible for their lives (not just the first few weeks).  I would advise her to either keep them until suitable, caring homes do come along or contact the Breed Club for advise.

I have advised she keep them or rehome to suitable homes.  I know I could never do it.

Please don't let her sell them to Harrods.  They don't know one end of a dog from another (or the difference between a toy and miniature poodle).  They also crank up the prices: "toy" poodle puppy was £1200 when I was in last time.  Avoid them like the plague.

I wonder if this is the type of place that Paris Hilton gets her dogs.  They may go to people who can well afford their upkeep but will they ever be more than an impulse buy or status symbol?  I'm sure it's not the type of place a serious dog owner would go.

I had an e-mail from them wanting kittens -needless to say I didn't even reply. A pet shop is a pet shop and it's no place for puppies or kittens. I haven't been to Harrods for years but they used to be far more responsible than normal pet shops (like asking questions of buyers) -but that doesn't change the fact that it should be a big no no for dogs and cats.

Harrods have also been known to sell tiger cubs- definitely responsible selling going on there then! Tell them to go jump is what I'd say!

You will all be pleased to know she declined the offer.

Thanks for posting the outcome (i did keep hoping she wouldn't).

For a start this is against the KC code of ethics, not to mention most breed clubs codes and most anyone I know personal ethics.
