I need to get a new one and wondered witch was better, tape or cord? I have been using tape and it's fine but was thinking about trying cord. I would like to know what others think is best ?

Hi, in the past I have used both types and if I had to choose then would go for Cord. To be honest though I have not used the flexi leads for ages because since finding the dog leads we use now i would never go back to the flexi's. The leads we use now are called Ferplast Daytona and they are brilliant. Comfy to hold, extra longer than normal leads, 3 'D' rings and clips either end, which makes them so adaptable. I have lost count over the years of the different leads we have used but these are definetly 'the tops'.

dito to the last post these leads are great and much nicer to hold, i got one for my newest puppy and wouldn't get a normal flexi lead again.

I let my dog run free in the fields and woods , but as she can be stubborn and sometime wont come when its time to go home, so I use a flexi lead to let her run about as I find its best to let her off some days but not all days. So on the days I don't let her off i use the flexi lead. I don't no if the Ferplast Daytona would do the same job.

The Daytona leads are at least twice the length of the 'normal' leads, so you may find that they would suit. You will not believe how much more stronger and safer they feel.
Hi Vinya
I use a Flexi for one of my dogs as he is a reflex chaser. He has great recall if I can get his attention before he notices the sheep/person/dog but tricky to get back once he's started to move away. I want him to have the freedom to mooch within a fixed radius until I've checked the field for livestock.
I always use the tape version because it will retract fully - this means I can still keep him close for road work. The cord version has a fixed length of unretractable tape which is much too long for 'heel' walking. I opted to try the cord one as it was a bit longer than the tape one but in actual fact it was too long to be practical, the cord is lethal if caught, and it was much heavier to carry as well.
If you do decide to try one see if you can borrow one first before spending the money :)

I've always been happy with our tape ones. :-)

thanks. I may just stick to tape then as I am already happy with it.:)

I have a cord one for my terrier and am going to go and buy a tape one. The cord can burn your fingers if you happen to be holding it when the dog leaps to the end of the lead and I have had several burns to my fingers when excitement has got the better of him.

I have a Cavalier that I rarely let off the lead, and I use a flexi for her. Having had the cord and the tape, I have to say I prefer the tape. I had her on a cord one once and the cord got stuck around a metal post box and it snapped in half!
Edited to add: the cord snapped, not the post box ;-)

Definitely a tape one. Cord is more dangerous when it wraps itself around the dogs, people's legs etc. Remember, any flexi lead should always be attached to a harness, never a collar.

Yes, have used both and prefer the tape type for all the reasons already given.
