Hello All!

Trying to get the whelp box completely ready for Casie and the new born pups (it already was, but we want temp to be perfect for them)

Cant remember if its supposed to be 80F or 85F in the whelp box. 

Can anyone fill me in???  Thanks a bunch (no sleep for almost 2 days now, so brains arent working proper!)

no idea....just have mine so they are comfy...whatever temp that may be Ive never checked!!!

Hi ive a litter due from tommorrow.I have heat pads but devcided to buy heat lamp .After reading your add about temperature it made me think.I didnt realise it had to be certain temp.
How do you measure your temp ,that will be another thing to buy

hi tonia put a thamometor (sorry about spelling) in the whelping box i got one that can be put stuck onto the inside of box ....make sure the lamp is 5ft or higher if needed ...got it from wilkos and stuck it in with tape :)

We used the thing from the oven.  You know, the themometer that you place in the oven to see if the oven is really heating to what you want it to be heated to?  Right now the whelp box is between 80-85F according to the thermometer.

I have the temp. 85deg to 90deg at floor level during the delivery, while the pups are damp. then when delivery is over, when I have cleaned the box and mom has been made to go for a wee, and the pups are dry, I higher the lamp so the temp is 80deg to 85deg. I then keep it at 80deg until pups eyes are open .  (With no drafts.)

Today is day 58 which my breed (ive been told) is usually normal.
she is very quiet today so it could be anytime.
I have got heat mats which i have used before  but have just ordered a heat lamp with temp dimmer as
most people use this method.
Lets hope it arrives before the bubs do

Thanks all for your replies!  Got the heat lamp sorted.  Pups and mom seem to do well at this temp.  THANKS!!
