has anyone heard of tablets to stop a boy dogs pee from smelling strong, i was talking to a mate of mine & she said she knew of someone who used to give their boy these chalky sort of tablets in water & it helped apparently, i know they mark their scent alot, but there's parts in the garden thats really starting to kick up,i use jeyes but i cant bear the smell of the stuff.

If it's grassy/mud areas of the garden I would rather pour water onto the area as soon as he's urinated on it, this will dilute the urine and help flush it away.

Jeys and other 'milky' disinfectants are poisonous to cats and birds so is not the best thing to use anyway, you can buy chemicals to do this joy that are not scented try 'Yard Clean' or something similar.

Just to add that the reason I use only water on grassy areas is that I have a Koi/sterlet pond, it's really hard to find out weather any disinfectants are harmfull to my fish. There are pond products I can't use for the koi as the sterlet wont tollerate them & vice-versa so I wouldn't want to put thier healt at risk. I've looked at the safety sheet for 'Safe4Pets' and allthough the ad says frienldy to the envioronment, the actual safety sheet states there is no data available for Aquatic & Eco toxicity :(

I've seen the mineral stones that go in the water bowl in Pets at home. I expect they work in the same way as adding cider vinegar to the drinking water, by altering the PH level of the dogs urine which, I believe can cause infections, kidney stones and all sorts of problems. I too hate the smell of Jeyes. There is a product available on ebay that comes in different 'flavours' that is supposed to work brilliantly and is kind to the environment but I cant think what its called - I learned about it here on CD so perhaps someone will be able to help. Theres nothing worse than the strong smell of a male dogs wee is there!
