Hi All  Whilst walking with a friend and her labby yesterday the dog went down a bank and was unable to get back up.  she struggled for a while until my husband went down to get her.  When he got to her she was shaking all over, her eyes were sort of rolling (white showing a lot) and her legs were like jelly.  He literally had to drag her up the bank.  Once at the top she lay down still in the same state.  My friend (her mum) covered her with a coat and just talked gently to her.  She gradually came too and got up still a bit wobbly on her legs.  Then she started wagging her tail and we continued on our walk.  My friend said it had happened once before on a walk when she got stuck on a canal.  She felt it was panic.  Not sure myself.  The dog is 6 and a bit overweight.  Any ideas.

Thanks

doesn't sound like panic if the dog was unconscious i would go to the vets and get this checked out asap.
With human seizures which my daughter suffers from her eyes roll either to the right or left then she collapses and jiggs about for alittle while after this she will come round and be very sleepy.i'm not saying dogs do the same thing as i have never experienced it.
I'm sure someone else on the sire will have an idea what this is but i would ring the vets first thing tomorrow and get some tests done.

Hi Becksie, unfortunately im inclined to agree it does sound like the dog is having some sort of fit, my mum also owns a dog that fits very occasionally, the family didnt know that she did it and it was only on a off chance that we saw it one day, much like your friends dog my mums dog shakes all over on the floor, we sit with the dog until its all over, talking to her throughout. TAKE THE DOG TO THE VET ASAP, test may need to be done to see what is causing the fits as there are many different reasons and so different treatments. I doubt the weight is attributing to the fits as fitting occurs (I think but don't quote me) in the upper synapses or functions of the brain.
