be very careful of what you teach your dogs.  I had some chicken drumsticks on a tray in the oven (oven switched off) defrosting. and my little working cocker who has been taught lots of diff tricks i.e. opening drawers/doors etc. decided it was a door like any others and did what I try to allow her to do ...'work it out'.....she did! she opened the oven door and ate most of my dinner. she had left one drumstick that was right at the back.  So, I closed the oven door and asked her to 'get it!' and she just got the paw up and flick! flick! till the door opend..................She also worked out that if she pushed the kitchen chair back she could hop up on to that then get on the table, once there the kitchn was her oyster so to speak, she then had access to the worktops yeeeeha!  she is now back to her crate during the night.

From the garden through a window, I watched my pointer open the gate to kitchen, open the bin ,by standing on the peddle, and remove empty cat food pouch, close gate and go to his bed. Stashing pouch under his blanket.  A sneaky snack for later I suspect.
When I came in from  the garden he was a good boy laying in his bed!!!!

Gulp!  Like yours, my working cocker has worked out a route to the kitchen worktops via a chair and table.  She sleeps in our bedroom, but has sneaked down several times during the nights and helped herself to food that has been left out on the worktops.  I'm hoping she's not clever enough to work out how to open an oven door!

well when my rott was a pup i taught her if she touches my hand with her nose she'd get a treat from there it went to opening the back door and letting herself in and out.now when she lets herself in and its cold i call bella touch and she'll close the door hehind her!! shes soon sitting infront of me waiting for her treat  :-)

One of mine learnt to open the kitchen door (round door knob) and managed to say hi to his mum when she was in season. I knew nothing about it until 7 1/2 weeks later when I found her on the kitchen table eating my OH's dinner  4 pups arrived 10 days after that :-( One of these 4 learnt how to open doors and managed to get into the kitchen cupboards that I had just filled with crisps, cakes, biscuits....... Family trait perhaps :-)

That is worrying. We had a Lab who passed recently who knew how to open doors, most of our handles had to be turned on their side so he couldn't open them. Our current Lab pup seems to be able to open the stairgate, not sure how at this time.

We have a cat who is full of tricks. He can open our windows by hooking his paws under the handle and then lifting them. It took us ages to figure out why one of our windows was open every morning, we all claimed to of shut this said window. It wasn't until one day we actually caught him doing it.. Clever cat. Still does it now.
