Hi everyone this is my first post,
i have 2 girls who have just completed their seasons. my first girl had a dose of Cephalexin 3 weeks prior to her season for a bacterial infection of the skin. she went into Estrus at 9 days and my dog was curious but not overly eager. my girl would stand for him and even mount him. he would mount her then lose interest very quickly.for the whole of her heat this was the case with the first girl.  i have mated these two previously and had 3 very successful litters. so i "AI" her at 11 days and 13 days.  my other girl came into season about a week after  the second girl. my dog was his normal self for this girl, whining and trying to break through cages and just chomping at the bit to get to her but still uninterested in the first girl. my first girl is 6 years and i intend to spayed her after this litter as i want to keep a girl for future litters and a boy for showing as i have been away from the show scene for a while and would like to return. could this type of Antibiotic have affected her Progesterone levels? this is her second time i AI her, the other two litters were natural. i am very worried this mating won't take. she is getting to an age where i don't want her to go through litters again. her season has finished and their is no abnormal discharge or anything of concern. has anyone experienced anything like this?. her last litter was 1 year ago to a natural mating. i hope i have given enough info. i can't get this out of my head, lol, i'm going crazy but i guess time will tell if she is in pup. fingers crossed.

Hi,
Did you have the progesterone levels checked before the AI?
Or was day 11 and 13 just based on her last AI?
Normally the progesterone level is carefully followed, when an AI is done, since it's so important to
pinpoint the right day with most ripe eggs. Especially if you're useing frozen semen.
The reason I mention this, is that from your dog's behaviour, one could suspect that she didn't ovulate.
Which of course isn't the case if you've monitored the progesterone levels, since you then know for sure that she has.

As always, time will tell. Those first four/five weeks before you know if your girl is in whelp or not, seems like months, don't they ;-)
Good luck,
Karen

hi Karen thanks for your reply,
i did not have the progesterone test as i have never missed a mating with her before. the first mating with this girl was an AI and i had noted it was done day 11 and 13. the second and third matings were natural matings with long ties on days 12 and 14. i had planned to do natural matings again but my boy was not playing along. as i did not want to miss and my girl was responding correctly i presumed she was ovulating. the dog next door also confirmed this for me.in hindsight the importance of this mating she should have been tested. i used fresh semen. my male  normally goes crazy as soon as her blood lightens with this girl at day 9. my other girl is about day 12. i have mated my other girl twice with a natural and an AI. i have never missed yet, i do the AI my self. all litters have produced 6-9 pups. but this time my male was not playing the game. girl 1 is a pure black and girl 2 is a pure white. has my dog turned into a racist? lol only time will tell and yes it seems like months allready and its only 2 weeks lol.
thanks again
RICHARD

Maybe due to her skin infection and antibiotics just before it may have knocked out her season.
