Does anyone use any homemade ear flushes.Can anyone tell me if home made are any good or should i buy over the counter . Ive been using thornit for 2 days,and it after using for 4days flush the ears out for 2 days then use thornit for another 4days then flush again.:-)

It's not something I would attempt.  If there is infection present the eardrum can be ruptured which could lead to very severe problems.  This is very close to the brain remember.  I would see a vet.

Ditto Isabel. I would never attempt anything like that without professional use of an auroscope first to ensure I wasn't doing further damage.

been seeing 2 diffrent vets over the last 8months ,all they keep giving him is antibiotic,steroids and different ear drops.all worked for around 5 weeks then the problem starts again.not happy with steroid treatment , i use prednisolone myself iknow the problems they cause,so decided to  use thornit. after using for only 2 days his ears are looking alot better than they did with the vets treatment. thankyou to everyone on dogsforum who recommended thornit , its brill.ps the vets said his eardrums are fine.

Then I would continue with the thornit but I would not consider flushing the ears myself.

my vet gave us a bottle of hibiscrub, works wonders for cleaning ears

thornit worked a treat.diggers ears are clean,pink and not smelling . didnt flush the ears though just wiped ears with warm olive oil and cotton wool.

My vet told me not to use canker powders like Thornit as they just clog up the ear.  The best thing I've found for cleaning out ears is warm olive oil.  It just needs lightly warming and then gently syringing in and it cleans the ear beautifully.

If you overuse the Thornit, then yes it does clog up, but you can gently clean out with olive oil on some cotton wool. I don't believe any ear should be irrigated regu;arly as it can promote wax build up as the ear uses the wax as a defence!

If you're having repeated problems with ears it may be as well to put some thornit into a plastic bag big enough to take a paw. Put the paw into the plastic bag and jiggle it about till it covers the paw. Shake off any excess. Job done, no need for dramatic water sessions!

i thought it would only clog the ear if thornit was used incorrectly,and too much was used,and put in the ear canal which you shouldnt do.used following the instructions provided i cant see a problem with thornit clogging up the ears.thanks for everyones advice.

Only use thornit when needed until problem as resolved itself then as been said clean out carefully when problem has cleared up never over do it, it saved one of my collies years ago from being put of sleep.
