Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / New wainwrights food
- By goldie [gb] Date 10.02.09 22:43 UTC
Went into PAH today and bought some wainwrights flat pack food 395gms.
It looks the same as nature harvest pack with very simular ingredients.

My two loved it just the same as nature harvest. I think it maybe slightly cheaper.
Anybody else tried it.
- By Teri Date 10.02.09 22:52 UTC
Hi goldie

I tried it on my lot but I didn't fancy the consistency of it when I scooped it out and sure enough it gave mine the runs (must admit I didn't fancy the consistency of that either  )

Not as good as NH in my view but that's not saying others wont find it OK :)

yes but the puppy 1 my girl didnt like it ...but the older dogs did lol:)
- By suz1985 [gb] Date 10.02.09 23:16 UTC
im with teri, i wasnt overally impressed with it personally, though my boy scoffed it all (then again, he does eat anything ) ive bought it a few times, when it was on special offer, and when it was the only food in stock,( usually buy natures harvest, menu or diet)

isnt my first choice, but thats just my opinion!

OK Thanks to all
They both seem fine this morning no explosions.
Its the first time ive seen it at our end of the country.
- By dvnbiker [gb] Date 12.02.09 15:43 UTC
if you check the foil tray ingredients against the tinned version ingredients the tinned ones are much better and on a par with naturediet.
- By goldie [gb] Date 12.02.09 22:46 UTC
Well i dont know if we are thinking about the same pack, this pack is the same as the tin, not the one with the derivatives.
I have never seen this in PAH untill this week. Its in a beige pack cover that slips off like nature harvest.
Girls have both had it for a couple days now and seem fine on it.

im a little confussed, tess has wainwrights wet, we buy the flat packs with the foil lid, 3 different flavors, is this the one you are talking about? they had sold out the last time we went so we bought the 6 pack of tinned wet,, well she loved it but my did it give her the wind!!!! so is the new food better than the foil packs? whats the difference.
- By Teri Date 14.02.09 15:53 UTC
Hi tessiesbest

I haven't tried any of the wet tin formulae but the wainwright's moist 'tray' food is the one I gave a go with mine and it didn't go down (or come out) well.

regards, Teri

sorry to sound blonde! but whats the difference between the new food and the wet tray with foil lid????? thanks
- By Teri Date 14.02.09 16:07 UTC
To my knowledge it isn't a 'new food' - it's the same one as you're talking about, simply new to the OP :)
- By tessisbest [gb] Date 14.02.09 16:18 UTC
oh ok im sorry,,,, :)
- By goldie [gb] Date 14.02.09 18:14 UTC
Hi Tessisbest

No it has not got the foil lid thats the other wainwright with derivetives .
This one has a outer package like nature harvest and plastic coating over the top and no derivetives.

Fresh turkey 65% Turkey liver 5% Brown rice 5%   72p each

I have only seen it this week in PAH so new to me.
I have used it this week and its better than the foil one.

Crumbs - it was a few weeks ago and I can't remember if the ones I bought had a foil lid or not

I think it was packaged exactly as Natures harvest and pretty (no! definitely LOL) sure they had a carboard sleeve .....  If memory serves me right I initially picked one up by mistake and that's what made me try a selection of flavours ......

Maybe I should shut up :-D

Hi Goldie,

I didn't think you were having a pop kiddo LOL - just that altzeimers had finally taken me over :-p  I honestly don't know what I gave the little critters now, probably kitty-kat or even kit-kat

Hi I was just reading the messages about the new wainwrights food but I didn't know that you could also get it in tins as well as the trays. Are the tins available at all the pets at home stores? The reason I ask is that I have tried the original trays ie the ones with the foil lids but one of my dogs wasn't keen on them so now I get natures menu in tins as I have already tried the nature menu pouches which again he wasn't keen on but seems to like the nmenu tins, so it would be a useful standby to try the wainwrights tins as I have to order the nature menu tins specially from a local supplier and there is always the worry I might not be able to get any. I can only imagine my poodle prefers the tins as they appear to be a different consistency to the pouches and trays.
- By tessisbest [gb] Date 15.02.09 14:26 UTC
yes the tins come in a pack of 6the only downfall is that the flavous are all the same, the consistnecy is different to the trays, tess loves it but as is said it did give her the windies.. but then she has a very sensitive tummy so anythink different and she either has the runs or vomits, ive never has a dog like her,, bless,

Clarification: Temp packaging - Wainwrights

LOL, I don't feed this but noticed in PAH today that the wainwrights wet feeds had a big 'notice to customers' up;
Aparently problems in production have meant a temporary packing being put into place, so where as before it had a sealed foil lid, there will be batches in store now plastic sealed and with a cardboard sleave (similar to Berties, Forthglade etc...)

That might clear up the confusion here as to what Wainwrights wet looks like :)
- By ttaylor45 [gb] Date 15.02.09 15:42 UTC
Thanks for the reply about the wainwrights in tins do they do just the one flavour in tins please?
- By Teri Date 15.02.09 15:46 UTC
Ah ha HG - curiouser and curiouser as they say LOL.  I'm now totally lost, bemused, befuddled and bewildered (but I've been that way for a while :-p )

I'm just going to stick with giving them occasional NH - it saves any confusion (well, mine at any rate!)
Thanks for the info,

Teri x

3 flavors but all the same flavor in a 6 pack.
- By dvnbiker [gb] Date 17.02.09 16:44 UTC
Hope this helps:

The chicken & rice foil pack tray food has these ingredients:

Fresh Chicken Meat and Animal Derivatives, Cereals, Vegetables, Minerals. Vitamin E (Alpha Tocopherol) 15mg/kg

The one that comes in the packs of 6 tins doesnt have animal derivitives in it and in fact has more % of chicken than naturediet.
- By tessisbest [gb] Date 19.02.09 10:06 UTC
do you think then that the tins are a better food, if so i will stick with them, thanks
- By dvnbiker [gb] Date 20.02.09 16:58 UTC
personally yes but will stand corrected if I am wrong as I havent been able to find the tins ingredients on line.
