Beaming here with pride as she is a little darling! but also with embarrassment, I would like to change my pups name yet again....I dont think she suits it! and I dont warm to it!
I have already shortened it, added to it, sang it! still it does not do it for me.

not her kc name but her home/pet name, all because I went with Daughter in law & sons ideas then 2 year old grandson said it and I thought oh he says that so easily so ok fine its that...

now 3 weeks on she is thirteen weeks and all vets/ringcraft/friends etc know it and she responds to her name really well as we called her that from birth!
have you ever changed a name more than 3 times? does a name really matter????

Well I do have nick names for my pets and sometimes they respond to that better than there name. You could start of using the name you like as a nick name and slowly use the old name less and less

Our multiple dogs have multiple names, and some of the names do not sound remotely alike ie Toni is most often called Woody, & Mobo is Princess, Razzie is Bags and Booker is Beaucie, however Indy is Bindy, Patsy is Pate-la-poo, and Juno is Whoknows so really continued use of a name in connection to a dog works for us :-)

Grammy is Mad Cow but as she is deaf it doesn't really count ;-)

No I've not changed their names. But now thet are adults I would have liked to call one Chocholate Chip and the other Orio. And then hopefuly in a couple of years when I get my next pup it could be called Cookie Monster.

I changed pups name a lot in the first week, he was
Blue (we had this name decided on before we got pup as it apparently means 'old faithfull'),
Muphey
Diesel
Dino (lol, the dinosouar pet from the 'flintsones').
None of them suited him or felt right and my mum couldn't keep up with the name changes so resorted to a nick name of Buster-Billy. The 'Buster' part really suited him, so we changed his name to that :)
A coulpe of the names only lasted a few hours, so he's only had 2 name changes with the vet! He never responded to any of the names so we had no worry of confusing him.

Hi pamb

I've done it with two different dogs - they just didn't seem to suit their original names and each was called a multitude of names before finding THE one :)  Mostly dogs are responding to our tone of voice especially in the early stages.  It should be fine!

(and mine still respond to all their little 'extra' names and 'songs' too LOL)

Lol i think its funny having nick names for dogs but mines all do also, Truffle is boggle(dont ask) Pixie is "pickle" or "icklepickle" and Chula is "the snout" as she always has her long dachshund nose in everything lol. All of my dogs have always had a nickname that they answer to more than thier real name. Also I always change a dogs name if it is already named and they seem to adjust to the change very quickly.

Scottishwomble, I have a Pixie too :-) And I've recently changed her name, she was called Gypsy until about 2 months ago, (my OH's ex wife picked the name, and it just didn't suit). Her nickname is "pixiepops" - shortened to Pops. Pixie and Gypsy sound relatively the same anyway as I didn't want to confuse her too much - but she is so much like a pixie instead of a gypsy!

Hi, i have a boston terrier could bomber, cause he cost a bomb, and when we brought our border terrier he was orginally going to be called otis, but we changed him to gunner , so now we have a bomber and a gunner, my husband used to be in the forces so the names were apt at the time but we do get strange looks when we shout out bomber in the park?, i do fancy a chinese crescented dog in the future but i dont think the name sniper would suit the breed some how?
gunner is really gun-ho into every thing with gusto. bomber is a my bomb bastic so fantastic cause he is a real sweety with a fantastic personality.

Pups are pretty adaptable so I am sure she will come to learn her new name! My girl's name is Storm, but she gets called Stormy, Pinky Mink, Pog, Mog, La La, Na na, Boo ja Boo... and pretty much responds to all of them. If I ever really need to get her attention I use Storm or Pog.... she knows what I am on about. I don't use her name as a command, just a way of getting her attention so it doesn't reallt matter what I say IMO. Now I don't know whether to hit POST as this makes me seem like quite a weirdo :-O What new name are you going to use?
