I have a 6 month old Pekingese puppy who has an undefended tactical. I know he needs to be "fixed" to prevent it from becoming cancerous. I just am afraid of getting it done too soon. We chose him because his parents were fairly large dogs. I have always preferred the meatier pekes as opposed to the more dainty ones. His overall health is the most important issue, but I also don't want it to possible impact his growth and development.
As of now, he doesn't seem to have all of his adult teeth in yet. (I had one vet say that it is a way to gauge when he's ready) If I wait another 3 months to have the procedure done, would it put him at risk?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill

"Undescended Testicle" ...I should have been more careful with the spellchecker!

Prefer the first spelling Bill, how else do you get a laugh at this time of the morning. Don't worry too much as yet and you can leave it until the pup is 18 months or older with out too much worry. Recent research has shown that the increased risk to dogs who have retained their testicle is slight. The main problem being that you can't check his 'bits' to make sure that they are healthy so it is best to remove the retained one and as it is thought to be hereditry (I cant spell either) the desended one is removed too, to make sure he is not bred from. But if you so wish you can ask that the good one he had is left where it is. Just relax for now no hurry. Ja:)kie

Hi bill, What a wonderful way to start the day, I laughed till I cried (and I truly mean that in the nicest way) Undefended tatical, I shall always think of this particular problem in that terminology now :)

Freudian Slip???? ;) :D
Actually I'd consider the ones that dropped as undefended ;) :D
Thanks for the laugh :) :) :)
Oh, and welcome to the forum... we're a bit nuts on here :P :) ;)

Hi welcome. My boston retained his tetsies, don't know if its related to his bum problem (prolapse), but we had him fixed. One dropped but went back up and the other one was way up there. I was recommended to have him fixed. :)

Hi Bill,
I breed pekes and took on 3 rescue dogs about 2 years ago, 1 bitch and 2 dogs - 1 of the dogs (the dad to the other dog) had a undecended testical and had produced 2 litters (not whilst living with me but by the previous owner) - I only found out about his 'problem' when we took him to the vet recently to have him castrated - he is now 4 years old and very healthy. I took his son to the vets to check his testicals as this is normally hereditary but his are fine - all in tact !
Regards
Donna
