I always wait at the vets and have the pups and Mum home within the hour. (as long as all is OK)
Just wondered what other people do?  Wait or collect Mum and pups later.

I've only had one c section, and I waited in the reception for my bitch and one pup!!
I cant bare to leave them.
- By Jolene [in] Date 09.02.09 16:31 UTC
I was sent home to wait :-O !
- By mahonc Date 09.02.09 16:33 UTC
yep i was sent home to wait, although it was 4am in the morning and only 2 vets in attendance so i suppose they were not allowed to leave me on the premises whilst they were in surgery.

Sent home, the only bitch we have had needing a section (Boxer) almost died and needed a transfusion, in the days before donating your pint had become popular, vet used his own dog.

Needless to say she was spayed and never used again.

for the vet to use his own dog was something special. you must have been thankful of that!

Absolutley we thought she was a gonna, recovery took a while but she got there in the end. Sadly she died of bloat at the age of 9 years (but that's another story for another time)

Wait, always, even when my litter was born by emergency c-section on the May bank holiday at 3am, still stayed, the minute her eyes were open and she could stand we brought her and her babies home

only had 1 c-section (Thankfully) that was in november, both me and my mum got to deliver and rub down puppies, i removed all the cords while the vet closed my girl up and then as soon as she could stand on her feet we all went home, a very worrying and scary time as well as an amazing experience...my vet is excellent and really allows me to be involved with my dogs as much as possible which is great as i want to be with them at a time like that.

Always stay, what ever the hour.  I had one done in small wee hours, only one vet, and he called in a nurse.  I was allowed to wait in the tea room, and told to put the kettle on.  As soon as the vet had finished, he called me in to wait for my girl to come round.

Unfrotunately unable to stay as she was kept in for several days, but without complications would deffinitely stay.
- By marguerite [gb] Date 09.02.09 22:15 UTC
I stayed  in the waiting room when my bitch had her c section in November, and took her and the surviving pup home with me.

We've always stayed at the vets no matter what time night or day.
- By suepei [gb] Date 10.02.09 09:12 UTC
stayed at the vet's, it was my girls 1st and only litter she has 2 pups kept the boy gave the girl to a close friend.my girl was spayed as i did not want to put her through that again.
I know some will have 3/4 cections from a bitch, i feel that is unfair on the bitch.

I waited at the surgery which was fine except I managed to feint in the waiting room as I was a bit poorly at the time myself, so the vet not only had my girl to deal with but she ended up picking me up off the floor as well.

not a good thing to do papillon :( .....hope you was ok after x
- By Papillon [gb] Date 11.02.09 19:17 UTC
I was fine in the end just thoroughly embarrassed I had conked out at the vets lol, it was the start of an illness which caused low blood pressure hence the feinting but the docs sorted me out soon enough, my girl was fine to and we had two lovely healthy babes to bring home :-)

I managed to feint in the waiting room >
you never told me this  :-0

THANKFULLY never had this situation but id like to think my vets would allow me to wait as id be a wreck pacing at home otherwise.

sophie had c section monday, she went down to theatre at just after 3pm and we collected her just after 5pm.  She delivered first puppy naturally and 2nd puppy got stuck, vet thought he was making his way round into the other uterine horn :-(
I was told to come home and wait.  I was in tears when I left her at the vets :-( But all turned out well, and we have 4 beautiful puppies to love and  cherish :-)

LOL it was a while ago now, it was just this thread on c sections made me remember, my poor vet wondered what the heck was going on with me sprawled out in the waiting room, oh I'm blushing thinking of it now, a year on high dose steroids and I was fine, didnt do a lot for my figure though :-O

If I have needed one have always stayed and taken pups out of the vets hands to rub down, but then my vet knows I always stay to watch an op or procedure...they have learnt by now I am not easy to get rid off!!! LOL Luckily my vets are brilliant and just treat me like an extra pair of hands!!! ;-);-)
I could not cope with a vet who did not let me stay in the thick of things.

i did think about asking if i could have watched the c section being done, but i never knew they actually let people in to theatre.  You were soooo lucky to have been able to have seen them born.  That was the part that upset me most, not seeing the last 3 born :-( but theyre all healthy thats the main thing :-)
- By frenzy [gb] Date 12.02.09 20:32 UTC
Only ever had 1 c-section years ago  (28) and stayed to watch and rub puppies. We had to because bitch was over due, vet thought puppies dead, had a shock when he opened her up a had 9 in there live and kicking, he had sent the staff home.

Although Id have loved to have seen the c section performed, I wonder if I had, whether I would have ended up on the floor :-)  I was with my friend when she had her baby, but I guess there were no ''cutting'' involved :-)
