hi, i was going to start feeding my dogs something with tomato in as i heard this stops lawn burns and i just wondered, those of you with either dogs OR bitches do you have lawn burns if you dont feed anything to stop it? i have a dog and a bitch so dont know whether it is both of them causing it or just the bitch? i heard it was just bitches that cause it mainly because males pee up the side of something(my boy doesnt he is lazy!!)
thanks
I've got 3 bitches and one dog (all neutered except for one femal puppy) and i've got no burns on my lawn at all and my lawn isn't very big! Some people have had some success with dog rocks, which are like stones that sit in the water bowl and are supposed to stop burns without changing the urine Ph.
What's a lawn? ;-) Do you mean that piece of ground that has a few green tufty bits in it? :-) Sorry.
I have 3 bitches and 1 dog and I don't have burn marks on my (herm,) lawn. I've often wondered if the diet has something to do with it.

lindy im the same, i dont get burn marks on my mud either, in fact i would quite like the option of having burn marks on a lawn to be honest.

what food do you feed your dogs? i have an entire dog and entire bitch and its ridiculous the amount of burn patches!

I also don't have grass anymore due to being overtaken by a mudbath. I have to say I've never had any of my girls burn the grass anyway, when it has been able to grow it's always stayed a lovely green.
2 of my bitches are on autarky, the dog is on royal canin urinary as he had struvite stones, but was previously on autarky and no burn marks appeared. The puppy is on burns although was on hills. Neither are suiting her so looking for an alternative.

I am just confused and fast losing my lawn to a chihuahua bitch! I have a male neutered gsd and an unnutured bitch and yes I have burn marks mainly from the bitch as the dog has been trained to go in one place and only occasionaly goes elsewhere.(dont ask me about that its another story) Both are raw fed together with sardines in tomato sauce at least once aweek. My previous bitches if they used the lawn would burn it , they were both fed on Chappie complete.
I was just under the impression that dog wee male ofr female neutered or unneutered burnt grass. I think I need paving cos the dogs arn't going anywhere !

how often is it ok to feed them sardines in tomato ketchup? surely every day for it to work but i dont want to cause any probs from feeding sardines too often!

no idea interesting to see what others say

One thing to take care over is that tomato can aggravate arthritis if a dog suffers from it.
I have given up (LindyLou :) that's a better description of a 'lawn')

My dogs are aged 18months and two and half so dont have arthiritis yet. as long as the tomato doesnt CAUSE or bring on the effects as my dogs are agility dogs so need to be supple! i wouldnt want to give them anything to harm them....does anyone know how sardines usually go down on sensitive stomachs??

I have 5 dogs all bitches, 3 spayed, 2 entire, tomorrow it will be 6 dogs when we collect our rescue male, the first male we've ever owned.
We have a lawn, well I say lawn it's a green thing, does not have beautiful even grass, there are divots and hills where digging and truffling has taken place, the only time we get burns is in high summer (what's one of them) when young ladies approaching season time do their tinkles. I just pour water over the tinkle spot to dilute it and regularly chuck grass seed about. One of the girls eats the seed so I could be wasting my time.
My girls eat tomato and fish in tomato sauce, don't know if it affects the tinkle acidity but they do like it.
Sardines suit all of mine very well and if anybody is off their food because it has such a good 'niff' it's a good way of encouraging a picky eater.

My understanding is that it only aggravates existing problems, not cause them.
Sardines are often quite well tolerated by sensitive stomachs. I would start very small amount and work up to a tin (or half, whatever you wish to feed). Mine adore their pilchards.
