The temps have been around 114 and higher. The fires are out of control due to the very high winds. Please say a prayer for all

Teilo

I have family and friends in Australia, mainly NSW, and everyone in the areas affected is in my prayers.

While I understand the sentiments behind your post could you perhaps direct readers to a link where they could if desired read available info as IMO it is very distressing to read in particular of the fate of the Davey family in such stark terms and it may be even more upsetting to anyone knowing them or any other tragically taken friends and family still to be named.

May they and the souls of all lost Rest In Peace and please God those injured or still missing recovered soon :(

How utterly devestating.  I could not put in writing what I wish would happen to those who will have started the fires in the first place.  How many people have to die in Australia before people stop doing this?

I certainly found it so. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected, RIP

Cross-posted with permission from another website:

I am sure that you have heard about the dreadful wild fires that have hit Victoria, several kennels have been wiped out. The Alaskan Malamute fraternity is mourning the loss of an entire family Mum, Dad, kids and all of the dogs. There are many more sad stories at present the death toll is 108 and rising. The areas that were hit were very popular with dog, cat and horse breeders, and they did not stand a chance. Very sad, have shed lots of tears in the last couple of days. I believe that DogsVictoria are setting up a Paypal method of entry, I wondered whether you could pass this on in the UK for me. I will understand if it is too difficult.
If anyone wants to contact me to find out more please give them my email address, and I will see if I can answer the questions for them.
Thanks,
Lynda, lynwebb@activ8.net.au

My dad is in Bendigo, Victoria and so far the latest fires have been 6km away from him (I still call that close).   On Jeremy Vine's Radio 2 programme at lunchtime, he spoke to some Australians and basically when the fire is in the area you just have to mass evacuate as it is spreading quicker than you can drive a car.   Frightening.

My family and I are in tears every evening watching the news. It's just indescribable how sad and traumatic these fires are... I lost it last night when they showed two dogs just hanging around waiting for their owners who probably don't even know they are still alive. To think that someone could deliberately light these fires and cause this destruction make me sick. Thankfully I am not in Victoria .. but my thoughts most certainly are with those poor people who have lost everything.

I have friends who reside in the state of Victoria, they are gladly all safe at this time as mainly live in the urban areas.

Its a shock to see whats occurring out there right now, It is my favourite state of Oz after my 10 month trip around in a few years back now.
I know they have an arson squad working on the culprits, but unless people start bragging there will be little to no evidence of catching these people as the fire will of damaged it all.

Fingers, toes and my boys paws are crossed in the hope that the wind dies down very very soon so that they can get on top of this and put a stop to it spreading.

Its devastating news about the people who have passed due to this fire and its increasing daily. It makes it all the more stark when you have names of people and their dogs.

RIP for all those who suffered in this fire and my thoughts are very much with the people who will need to rebuild their lives out there.
xx

I do have friends and family in Australia, South Australia and Victoria included.  Have been watching the news in horror this last fortnight or so.  I can only say my heart goes out to all who have and are suffering.
RIP all who have sadly lost their lives.  Thoughts and prayers with all.

As well as the link above for the 'virtual dog show'. An official Red Cross fund has been set up.

http://www.redcross.org.au/vic/services_emergencyservices_victorian-bushfires-appeal-2009.htm

As well as sending our thoughts and prayers, we need to be sending money. There are a lot of people out there needing to be fed, clothed and rehomed. The price of a take-away this weekend would go a long way in helping people get back to their lives.

Just received this from friends in Oz:

It is amazing the food that has poured into the community already wrapped into grocery bags with enough of everything for all.  Also separate toiletries for men & women , bedding, clothes, fresh vegetables, washing powder, toys  everything you can think of from all companies even Qantas sent pillows, quilts. The various health teams have already been & tomorrow night & Saturday the Rotary, Lions etc are putting on a BBQ  & just want the community. Hay has arrived from other farming communities to be distributed, amazing when everyone is so short of it anyway.. The weather is a long way from being settled yet. It remains highly dangerous in a lot of the state & such devastation.

Thank you for all your love & support it has been marvellous to have you all out there.

My friends were lucky - they lost about a third of their grazing, but the house, family and animals are all safe.

Donated already you can do it through paypal, they will take ages to rebuild and some people have no clothing, no money, nothing.
