Details of the RSPCA report into dog breeding
here
What can you say , rspca at it again most of the points in the report are already being addressed and some have for years , as far as i can see they just want to trash pedigree dogs and take the credit for any improvements, i for one will not donate to them again , will stick to local animal charities that dont have big ego's

The last paragraph made me laugh - what the hell do the RV(C)S know about anything related to the genetic diseases of most animals, if my experience of young vets is anything to go by they're hard pushed to explain recessive mode of inheritance let alone dom - co- dom sex linked, polygenic?
I have passed more research information to my own vet than any 'offical' veterinary body, only this week I passed papers re epilespy research for both her and one of their clients who has an epileptic collie advising her where and who to submit samples to as well as discuss clinical data with!
Why sydney not AHT or any of the European groups working WITH breeders rather than against them, maybe they just went to like a minded group, maybe the RSPCA want similar status here to that seen in parts of Australia?

Just done a little research of the individuals responsible for this report, think I've just answered my own question see Dr Nick Branson for the Australia link - lets hope if they want to collate data re genetic diseases they include ALL dogs not just us disgraceful show pedigree breeders

The RSPCA really is a bad joke. If they put half the effort into attacking the puppy farmers, backyard breeders and naive/greedy/stupid "pet" breeders who never health test and are busy creating/continuing health problems within breeds, that they do into attacking show breeders, they could achieve much much more for dogs in the UK. Instead, they are just following a politically led, animal rights agenda.
I have no time for them whatsoever as a national organisation.

i have no time for the rspca.last april i gave them a call about a neighbours spaniel, lab cross.all winter he was left to roam the streets, night and day whatever the weather.the dog has been picked by local wardens on at least 4 occassions and all the owners had to do was pay £30 to get the dog back.this got out of hand dec07 when i noticed about 10 weeping sores on the dogs back.when i seen the owner about them she said she take the dog to the vets.but after seeing the dog weeks later the sore wer still there plus afew were pussy.i then phoned the rspca in april 08 told them what was happening ,they were shocked at this cruelty, but not enough to come out straight away.they turned up in june told owner to take dog vet which she did, visited again 2 weeks later then closed the file.tto this day and with all the snow weve had the poor dog is still roaming night and day.surely when your reported to rspca the should check on the animal every 6 mnths at least.funny how the rspca look good when on tv isnt it. ;-(
Or how many of their experts have practical experience of breeding pedigree dogs?

Who'd want to support a group withHeather Mills as being one of their main spokespersons? I know that I wouldn't.

The problem is they are well organised, highly motivated, have a very high public profile as well as political officers who have the ears of the ministers, we would be fools to under estimate these people when they get a bee in their bonnets.
Absolutely. Doesn't affect me - don't breed and don't have KC reg dogs - but you guys should be taking these people VERY seriously. They have the influence to get their wishes heard - and for some of those in the RSPCA the agenda includes the complete banning of dog shows. Ignore them and make fun now if you must - but then don't expect any sympathy when your hobby becomes so politically unacceptable that no venues will allow dog shows, and the rules about breeding are so strict that you will not want to bother any more.

Exactly, and the RSPCA do have a bee in their bonnet - about the welfare of pedigree dogs and they are not going to let it go. Making fun and criticising them is not going to change anything. Promoting the health of pedigree dogs above all else going forward just
might save the show ring and prevent breeding regulations.
Breeders have the future of pedigree dogs in their hands; I just hope they proceed wisely.

I would add to that supporting the KC in their efforts in that direction. They are the only agency likely to understand and be supportive of the show world and it's function in maintaining typical pedigree dogs that people can choose to share their lives with. Without support for measures such as the ABS they are not likely to be taken as seriously in Parliament, for instance, as bodies like the RSPCA.
