hi i am wondering if anyone has any stud dog advice, my neighbour says that his lhasa apso male aged 3 has started biting women ,he has used him for stud a few times and the dog has only just started doing this, i thought a male stud dog would only get aggressive towards other male dogs i think my neighbour is usin this as an excuse to get rid of the dog has anyone got advice

It is certainly best he stops using him at stud.  I don't know what advise you are after.

Neither my own dogs that were used at stud, nor any of the many (possibly over 100 over the last 20 years) dogs that I know have became aggressive to people after being used - if anything they become soppier!

Assuming this dog has been checked out by a vet and is not suffering any problems that could cause it to bite. Then it is a case of a dog developing a problem that has made it unsuitable to be used at stud.

Would think that the owner should stop using it and make sure all the owners of puppies it has produced should be contacted to let them know that the dog has now developed a temprement fault and the pups in turn have a fault in their background and should not be used for breeding. Likewise any pups they have produced should not be used to bred.

My young boy has been used 3 times and it still the same towards people and dogs. He was never aggressive or confrontational towards other dogs before and this hasn't changed him at all.

My dogs that have been used at stud, actually went the other way after being used-they were all overly friendly-probably in the hope of a further mating. They used to remember people whose bitches they mated too.

TBH I think it is nonsense to suggest that using a dog at stud will change his attitude towards people, think it more likely an excuse and the dog should never have been used in the first place because apart from anything else it has a faulty temprement.

thanks for all your information i have found out that he part owns the stud and the other owner whome uses the dog for her bitch has had a falling out over something and he is using the aggression as an excuse to have him castrated so she has to find another stud dog i think this is childish behaviour and a dog is in the middle of it they dont deserve to have them in the first place
