hi my 8yr old jack russell keeps getti ear infections. hes been to the vet three times in the last 8hesnth each time hes given antibiotics and steriods . ive also taken allergies on board and changed his food but every couple of months the infection is back. im not happy giving him antibiotics all the time and wondered if anyone knows of any safe home remedies i could try.  the stuff in his ears is brown but there is no smell.

One of my Bearded Collies was always havng this problem until I started using Colloidal Silver - it is fantastic.  :-)

Hope I did that link okay, I know it's not cheap but it lasts ages, and works out a lot less than countless trips to the vet.  I am thrilled to have cleared my girls ears at last!  :-)

Hi JeanSW, thank you for the link. Could you please tell me how you would use the product in the ear. I have also heard about the product being used to clean eyes and for minor eye infections, is that the case ?

It certainly is :-)  You can even spray sore throats with it.  It's said to be  Anti-Bacterial, Viral & Parasitic.

I use a 1ml syringe for the smaller dogs (in each ear) and I fill the syringe 2 or 3 times for my Beardies big lugholes.  I had to do it every day for about 10 days until all the gunk cleared, but I just do it weekly now, as a preventative really.  Some people love it, others say it didn't work for them, but I wouldn't be without it now.  And it's handy for loads of things (you get a leaflet with it.)

I use it for dogs rats and me :-)

gooled it this morning couldnt believe some of the cure. some said hydrogen peroxide(is this used by hairdressers isnt it?) and alot of kennel owners and rescue centres use listerene.anyone else heared of or used these?

someone suggested thornit. found a supplier of thornit and another one called mr watchmans.seem to contain same ingredients as thornit.has anyone got any views of later.

ouch, I wouldn't fancy having mouthwash or peroxide down my ears.

Yes it is, but I'm not sure that I would put it in an ear.  However, about the peroxide, it can be used for some purposes with great success.   I remember, many years ago, after I had lanced a horrible boil on a guinea pig, I was advised by a vet to flush it out with a diluted solution of hydrogen pyroxide.  Never heard of the listerene treatment though.

I used thornit on a rough collie she had a deep ear infection what the vet gave her worked will using it then when stopped it came back they were talking about putting her to sleep because it was so deep could not operate. I had heard about this product and thought what called I lose used in and within 48hrs could touch her ear and 2 weeks later she went to Cruft and was placed she was 12 yrs old and went on to live until 16 never had the problem back.  If you keep it in the cupboard it will last as long as you want it to.  My sons lab had a bad ear infection used it and he has never had the problem since. if you want the contact number and address I can find it for you.

jjust found out thornit and mr watchmans are the same product. mr watchman was a vet, who came up with recipe especially for his own spaniels who had constant ear problems,and to help dry up any liquid in the ears.so its a purpose made product which contains no antibiotic, and listening to a lot of reviews i think its safer than putting liquids in an already uncomfordable ear. ive just ordered some because the vets are not getting the problem under control, and for £13.95 for 200g its a lot cheaper than our who charges that for just enetering the surgery plus what ever treatment he prescribes(which isnt working)thaks eevery one for all your advice its very much appreciated :-)

I use Watchmans 'ear clean'.
My boy was having repeated ear infections, all th etreatments,  painkillers, anti biotics, and so on.
Then after being told about thornit on this board, I got this and have never looked back, it gets put in to both my dogs ears every couple of weeks now and so far no more trouble.
Therefore it is to be recomended.

watchmans arrived yesterday and i cant believe that his ears are looking alot better after only 2 applications. i would recommend that all dog,cat,rabbit and guinea pig owners keep a tub of this in the medicine box.:-D
