Topic Other Boards / Foo / Project on Los Angeles
- By melster122 Date 09.02.09 18:46 UTC
My 10 year old son has to do a project on Los Angeles. Whilst he has finished the factual information we are struggling with the fun aspect of it. He has done a wordsearch, a quiz about the difference of american and english words ie faucet means tap and he is planning to do his hand and footprints like outside Mann's Chinese Theatre.

Knowing that you are all imaginative people (unlike me lol) I wondered if anyone could come up with other ideas on what he can make, draw etc.

Your help would be gratefully appreciated because I am at a loss.

Many thanks

What about making a Hollywood sign ??

How about Baywatch and Santa Monica beach with the pier on it. Thats a good icon as well.

You have Universal Studios in LA itself as well.
Disney is about 1 1/2hr outside, but again is linked to LA in ways.

How about Rodeo Drive and all the glitz and glamour attached to it.

I could keep going as its my favourite place and have been many many times.. Can't get enough of it!!!

LAPD is also very well known Police force.

Kodak theatre for the Oscars.. American Idol is now filmed there as well(swoons over the thought of Simon Cowell).

I lived in LA when I went to Uni.

There's the La Brea tarpits (dinosaurs)
Muscle beach (stuff a T-shirt and strike a buff pose)
Tommy's chili burgers
The tournament of roses parade every Jan 1 - really spectacular floats all made from flowers and vegetation
All sorts of sports - scuba, biking, hiking, sailing, surfing... What most southern californians do for fun
Griffith park observatory (something spacey)
LA Zoo (if he likes animals)
Native american culture of the area
Bronson caves (been in a lot of movies)
all the theme parks (when I was a kid Knotts Berry Farm consisted of a restaurant, a dick pond and some fake dinosaurs you could climb on - how old am I?)

anything in that list work?

How about me taking him to good 'ole LA, you buy the tickets and I'll take him for a couple of weeks? Personally I find that fact finding is much better done at grass roots level and he will certainly gain an A* for the little service I can provide?? (I have CRB enhanced certificate...I am a retired Nurse and nothing like a nasty person, despite what some on here may say about my sarcasm!) ;-)

No way Dawn, if he goes with a tour guide it should really be with a native Californian don't you think? ;-)

>a dick pond

  What sort of attraction in that to be suggesting for a 10 year olds project! :-D

is it too late to edit?

You lot make me laugh lol.  I knew you would come up trumps.  Thanks for all the fabulous suggestions and I am afraid that if anyone takes him on a fact finding mission it will be me.

And as for the dick pond lol not sure about that one at all :)

Can i come too??? Love that city, especially the beach suburbs.

You see, as a seasoned retired Nurse I have seen my fair share of dick ponds I'm afraid! Stick to the Take a Nurse abroad plan, believe me, it will be worth it!! ;-)

Lori, hush away naw...take your filthy language somewhere else!!! :-o
