As a westie owner myself (6month old bitch puppy)I would have to say it is down to personal choice - nobody can make the choice but yourself.Remember however if you choose a bitch then you would need to prepared to cope with her seasons in terms of keeping her away from other dogs and dealing with any mess at least until she is old enough to be spayed.
