Topic Dog Boards / Health / Flaky Skin

Hi, I am looking for a bit of advice.

My dog has quite flaky skin, like dandruff. It is through his coat on his back and around his ears. He has had it on and off for a few years and I have tried a number of things. I was using Dorwest products and it did seem to go away but then came back. Just after that he lost his coat (about September time) and I kept using Dorwest, but it didn't bring his coat back (although he wasn't as flaky). In December I put him on Yumega, mainly through good comments from friends, and I wanted to bring his coat on for Crufts. His coat has now come through and is in beautiful condition, glossy and correct for the breed, but he is still flakey.

Any suggestions anyone?

Thanks

Have you tried putting Evening Primrose Oil in his food?

Thanks for your reply Oldilocks. He was on Evening Primrose oil for quite a while, it certainly didn't make a significant difference, and I took the advice from Dorwest to add the Keepers Mix. Even with this combination the flakiness never really went away.

May be worth giving him a bath in sebocalm or sebomild (available through vets or online veterinary pharamcy, no prescription needed). This will help getting rid of the flakiness

Thanks Floradora, I don't know why I didn't think of that. I might even have some.
