You may remember that I lost my Rugby back in December.  Beside being absolutely heart-broken, I had to beg, steal and borrow to get together the £6000 to pay for his treatment, I now how the added stress of dealing with the worst insurance company in the UK in order to get some of my money back.

This may get confusing so bear with me!

Due to a past experience with this company I had decided to change at renewal, and when Rugby first got poorly it was within the final 2 weeks of this insurance, and within the initial 2 week 'no claim' period of the new policy.  I called the insurance to notify them and was told that treatment linked to this condition would be covered for 365 from initial consultation despite insurance being cancelled at renewal.  Rugby had £5000 worth of cover with this company, but because of a previous claim the benefit left was only £4200.  I continued with treatment to the value of £6000 by choice, knowing this.  However, he was also covered for £1000 under the 'death by illness' part of the policy.  The insurance are now 'considering' the vets fees, but have refused point blank to pay the death benefit due to him being put to sleep after the end of the policy.

I'm arguing this as his death was a result of the condition they agreed to pay out for.  What are you're thoughts?

susieq,
I have no faith in insurance companies!! I know we have to have insurances but!!
I have found with many, they tell you verbaly you are covered, untill you decide to claim.
In my opinion, it is a very yes or no,
Are you covered for illness  YES or NO
How much for?
Am I covered for death due to an illness YES or NO
How much for?
Am I covered if a vet has to put my animal to sleep YES or NO
Am I covered if my animal dies under surgry
How much for?
If I loose my bitch during a c/section
How much for?
If I loose my puppies am I insurance?
How much for?
Questions we ought to ask.

No insurance company will pay for death that takes place after the insurance runs out. If you pay your insurance monthly they will deduct the amount of the insurance due for the rest of the year before giving you the balance for the lost animal, if you are not insured you will get nothing for this.

If you really think they have broken their agreement with you I believe there is an ombudsman who deals with insurance but I am not sure.
