I want to give you an example so I can maybe get the correct answer on a rule! I have had mixed feed back, various people have contacted the KC and have received different answers!

2 Puppies win BOB (a & b) puppy a is placed fouth in the adult group puppy b is unplaced!
The puppy group comes along and there are 3 puppies (a, b & c) ie including puppy b who went unplaced in the adult group. The judge places as follows in the puppy group:- g1-b g2-c g3-a.
How can this be correct? As far as I am aware puppy b has already been beaten by puppy a and is therefore a beaten puppy! I would think Puppy b could still beat puppy c but not a?

(I know puppy b does not have to get the puppy group 1 as it was not placed g1 or g2 in the adult group)

This is a difficult one, I think that there has been a mistake as I understood it you could only compete if unbeaten by another pup. But did the rules change when they started doing 4 places? Or do the groups take on seperate classification ie if beaten in an adult group this becomes void when going into puppy group? I will do some research and see what i can come up with jo

Puppy b is a beaten puppy and should have been withdrawn. It would not matter if it had only been beaten by an adult. :)

An pup could go in for pup if it hadnt been beaten by any other pup in any other class.
If it is beaten by another pup in the same breed
its a beaten pup
If it is beaten by an adult it can still go in the puppy group.
I steward for shows and this is one thing we have to keep an eye out for in all the classes.

My understanding of the example given is this.

The puppy which was beaten in the adult group by another puppy, was no longer elligible to compete in the puppy group. It was by now a beaten puppy. Withdrawal doesn't come into it at all, it's a beaten puppy plain and simple.

The puppy placed in the adult group, although it was not the group winner remained elligible to compete in the puppy group as it had only been beaten by adult dogs.

Hi Carolyn, a beaten puppy is a beaten puppy, it does not mean it has to have been the same breed, any other puppy and your out. I used the word withdrawn meaning that the handler should not have taken the pup into BPIS. And the steward should have noticed that. Ja:)kie

Jackie that is correct, as the rules say for Best pup competitions unbeaten by any other puppy. Sot the one already beaten in the adult group should have withdrawn, and the placed one would have had to check that the higher placed ones in the Group were not puppies.

Yep, it should not have gone if for BPIS!!
